If you are staying in Fort Worth definitely take some time and check out the Stockyards. Very cool, wish I would have been more of a tourist while I lived down there.

Stockyards in Fort Worth are definately more interesting at night. The last time I was there a drunk dude was running up and down the street on a mini pony! Billy Bobs if you like to dance and drink. The food in the stockyards is not that great, I have tried every restaurant, it is ok but not great. You can do the stock yards in a day, a really nice tack shop is there near the train station. I suggest you make a reservation at Five Sixty, its a nice restaurant  by Wolfgang Puck, it is on the top floor of Reunion Tower in Dallas, it turns as you dine so you can see all downtown Dallas . The view is stunning, it is a must do if you come to Dallas. Make reservations in advance and ask for a window seat!!! Look up their menu, it is five star so costs reflect that. Perot Museum is great if you like that kind of stuff. In GrapeVine near the DFW airport area there is a hotel called The Great Wolf Lodge, it is a hotel/ indoor water park. If you like swimming it is a fantastic place to stay!!!!!!!!! If you go down town Dallas be very careful parking and walking at night. Keep in mind everything is really spread out here make sure you give yourself time to travel and around 5:00pm it will take you twice as much time if not more to get anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Teskeys is a short drive in Weatherford. Definitely go to the Stockyards! The Cowgirl Hall of Fame is also in Fort Worth. I also really enjoyed strolling downtown Fort Worth. You can easily get all that done in a couple days. :)

Our time in Texas last year was pretty much what yours is going to be.  We stayed in Arlington and here is what we did:

Ft. Worth Stockyards.  Ate at Cattleman's.  Walked around and just looked and looked.  Would have liked to have gone there in the daytime though.  Although the lights and scenes driving down into the Stockyards were beautiful at night.

Teskey's:  our first attempt at Teskey's brought us to a downtown, high-priced Teskey's Boutique.  We looked around.  Couldn't afford anything, but found a nice little restaurant with an outside patio.  It was a beautiful Saturday (the calm before the storm actually) and we enjoyed our wonderful lunch and people watching.

Teskey's For Real..... Finally made it to the real Teskey's in Weatherford.  Wow!  I think we stayed there about 2.5 hours looking.  If you need it.. they have it.!

Saltgrass Restaurant:  our group is all about the food.  We don't eat at any restaurant that we have at home.  I actually enjoyed Saltgrass's food better than Cattleman's.

Cavender's and another western store were close to where we stayed in Arlington.  We shopped at both of them.

We drove around some and just looked at some of Arlington and surrounding areas.

If you're into Presidential history, both of the Bush Presidential Libraries are close by.  My daughter wants to see both of these next weekend and go to the zoo.  We will have to see if can get that in.  Just hoping there is no snow or ICE on this trip like there was last year.  I hope you enjoy your time at The American.  I know we sure did and plan on having a grand time again.!!!

The Stockyards is a great place to go shopping and they will give you a beer while you are shopping! Can you believe that?!? lol. In Oklahoma that would never happen. I went in a furniture store and they gave me a choice of a margarita or a beer. then I went to another store and they asked what kind of beer I would like. That is my kinda shopping right there! lol

H3 is so MUCH better than Cattleman's.  That's our favorite place to eat.

Cowgirl Hall of Fame and Amon Carter Museum (full of western art) are within walking distance of each other. Next door to Will Rogers Coliseum, home of Fort Worth Stock Show.

Dallas has the JFK Memorial Museum at the old Texas School Book Depository. That area has lots of trendy boutiques, etc (not western themed at all, however).

We went to the JFK museum, and it was neat enough I would love to go back and take my husband.  I am not a huge history nut by any means, but I really enjoyed seeing everything in real life that I had always heard about through school.

But really it all depends on how much you want to be in a car while you are there.  Nothing is too far away, but from Fort Worth, Dallas is one direction, Weatherford the other.  So time becomes your biggest enemy on trying to get everything done.

H 3 is at the corner of Main and Exchange, and it is awesome. Went to watch some friends in the steer wrestling slack the other night and had an awesome meal there....still nibbling on the extra ribs we brought home.

So, as a native Fort Worthian, I will have to disagree that there are no good restaurants in the North Side. H 3 is awesome, and we like Cattlemen's too.

Welcome, and I hope you have a great time!
