I saw the posting the other day on my fb.
It's a firefighter that apparently shot some dogs that where on his property (they way I read it, they have been there multiple times...). And everybody got in an uproar about it.
Not sure if he was justified, but I am all for SSS if animals come on my property and harass my animals. But I wouldn't be putting pics up on fb about it..... hence the third S.....

So, on the news this morning they said the dogs where in fact in his barn attacking his livestock. So I feel he was justified....
Unfortunatly I am afraid it will bite him in the booty because he posted those pics...

Another thing about that incident, the fact that the bunny huggers do not see that it is the owners fault that the dogs were there. Just because there is no leash law, people need to take responsibility for their dogs. Not to let them roam unsupervised.
Thank God those dogs didn't maul a kid.

Doesn't look like livestock were involved.... this is a new story on it 60 min ago.
The Jackass has been suspended from the fire dept. - I'm not a 'bunny hugger', but I can't stand people like this.  I hope he pays dearly for this.

Hunt County Constable Terry Jones is investigating the alleged shooting of two dogs earlier this week by a Hunt County man who posted photos of the incident to Facebook.

Jones said he is working with the SPCA of Texas on an open animal cruelty case.
“We’re gathering statements and evidence to put the case together,” Jones said. “Once we have the case, we will send it to the county attorney.”
Jones said that, contrary to some comments on social media, the alleged shooter, Tim Conatser, was not defending any livestock.
“There are no livestock involved here,” he said.
According to Jones, a case like this takes time to investigate. He did take exception to people criticizing local fire departments. Conatser was a volunteer firefighter with the Union Valley Fire Department, but he was removed from the department on Wednesday. He was misidentified on social media as a member of the Royse City Fire Department.
“As previously stated, we do not condone the recent actions of one of our firefighters,” the Union Valley Volunteer Fire Department said on their Facebook page Wednesday. “We are following our policy in removing him from our department. This is now a civil/criminal matter that we have no jurisdiction over. Please forward all concerns to local law enforcement and/or the SPCA.”
Jones added that people have a right to defend themselves and their property, but there are still rules to follow.
“We do not take animal cruelty lightly in Hunt County, he said. “We are also a rural community with livestock, and we understand that.”
As of press time Thursday night, no arrests had been made in the case.

I agree......but then again....I wouldn't shoot a dog if it was friendly. I've had stray dogs come up to the house, it's easy for me to load them in the truck and drive around looking for the owner. If I can't find them...they stay the evening in the house, then I take them to the shelter.

Now if it was a dog that was threatening my livestock, and not friendly....then yes, I would protect my animals/myself.

This guy was an idiot to post something like this on FB. He really screwed himself

I don't blame him for doing it IF the dogs were truly threatening his animals. What I don't agree with is him posting it to Facebook. He obviously was looking for a lot of "atta boy" and "way to go" comments.
I live out in the country and we get a lot of stray dogs showing up. Luckily we've never had big issues with any of them, and just take them to the shelter, we don't shoot them. Only one dog that I can remember was ever a problem, and it was a neighbor's dog. He would come over and chase the chickens, but I don't think he ever actually killed one. We talked to the neighbor about it, but the dog would still randomly show up. We then talked to the sheriff and they told us we could shoot it if it was threatening our animals. Luckily it never came to that because they either got rid of the dog, or figured out how to keep it locked up. Or maybe another neighbor shot it, who knows?
I'm also scared of my own dogs getting shot if they get out of the yard. They don't bother any of my animals, but so many people shoot first and ask questions later that I really do worry about it.

I'm split on this one. We do have a leash law. And there are MANY dogs that run free here. Three or four labs, a husky, a schnauzer, german shephard mix, heelers. All sorts. I know where most all of them live. I have "captured" several, called and texted numbers on tags. The owners say they like to "explore" and they will make their way home. Or, oops they got out, but I don't have time to get them. My yard is completely fenced. We did so to keep our dogs IN and others OUT. But when other peoples dogs start digging their way IN, it becomes a problem to me. We have a 6 year old daughter, free range chickens, kittens and horses. I will not wait to find out if they're friendly. Just as I wouldn't expect someone else to wait and see if our 150 lb mastiff is friendly. That's why I make it a point to keep my dogs in.

How horrible to post pictures of shoting dogs and showing them off on Facebook. I agree do what you have to to keep your livestock safe, but why would anyone want to brag about it, pretty sick...

I honestly don't really have an issue with him shooting the dogs if they where a problem. Even if they weren't bothering livestock, if the owners had been told to keep them home it is the OWNERS fault for not keeping them home. But posting that picture on FB shows a serious lack of both class and intelligence.

this is my opinion in a nutshell. And I've been on the other side of the fence for my dogs were shot. I live in the country is well. As I'm sure most of you do. But my dogs were shot by someone that completely hated us for personal reasons. Certified nut job. But I didn't protect them enough by keeping them on our property. Out of three dogs I could only save one. The other two ended up in the ditch after he shot them. My dog, zodiac a lab-husky mix never leave our yard now. Still has the remainder of a bullet hole in his face and will always carry the scar.

Protect your pets like you would your kids. on one of the Facebook post regarding this issue I saw someone comment they didn't believe a laugh with chase livestock.. All three of the dogs that my neighbor shot where lab mixes. And they really enjoyed chasing my horses and anyone else's they encountered. we had to keep them penned. When we let them out for exercise it was always a trail. Pack mentality dad called it. I'll only ever own one dog at a time now. Simply so there early trained and won't be running around the country side.

IS only problem is posting it on FB.... I'll shoot anything strange that comes on my property... When the neighbors dog attacked my dog INSIDE my fence, I called the authorities and they told me to protect my property any way necc... AND where I live the shelter WON't (beleive me I've tried) take dogs outside city limits, so if I catch them I got noplace to take them.

Playing devils advocate..... maybe the only way to get the dog owner's attention and other neighbor's attention was to post it on FB. The good thing about posting it on FB is that maybe the shock value will make some people think twice and start keeping their dogs up. People don't listen and maybe if they see the actual dead dog they'll pay attention. It's one thing to say I'm going to shoot them - it's another to show them the results.

A farmer down the road just shot 2 dogs. He's got newborn calves dropping and can't keep an eye on them all the time. So he shot the dogs. This wasn't the first time - people across the road wouldn't keep their dogs up after he called them several times. He shot three of them and the Alpacas killed the other two.

People have a tendency to think because they live in the country their dogs have a right to roam free. That's fine if they always stay on your property but dogs don't always do that. If they're not, then they need to be kept up, period. I've placed two rescues for this very thing in less than two months.
