I had a thread about this a few months ago.  Lots of good tips!  Folding the back flap down and hairspraying like it's the 80's.

Get a hat that is snug, and pull it down so your head is in the crown of the hat.  Like, IN the crown.  Hasn't failed me yet.

stuff the hatband in your hat with paper towels (some people even stick a thin panty liner in there) it makes it a snugger fit and you can take it out after you run to comfortably wear your hat.

I had issues with mine before I realized you just have to cram it on til its almost over your eyebrows lol. I had tried flipping the liner and couldnt get just the back of the liner to flip down.  So now I just push it down until I feel like im cutting off circulation to my brain LOL. Works.

I've never heard of a rule or anything against them. I just think it's a personal preference kind of thing.

I could never get mine to stay on regardless of what I tried so I went out and dropped $200 on a hat with an open crown and had it fit to my head. Haven't lost it yet.

If you are trying to avoid hat fines, just wear a helmet.  They don't come off :)  I did that for a long time.

The absolute best way to keep a hat one is to drop a pretty penny for a truly custom fit hat.  I spent about 300 for my Jaxon built.  Best 300 bucks I think I've ever spent.  It fits perfect, but does not feel tight.  I thought to myself it would for sure come off, but it has never moved.

Other than that, Im no help.

The best is stampede strings, one time I broke my stampede strings during a run and ended up with a nasty rope burn on my jaw, no idea how that happened.
I have shoved toilet paper in the liner, bobby pinned it to my skull, and even shoved it on and left bruises it was so tight, I still prefer stampede strings, bobby pins hurt!!!
