Location: texas | I have a 7 year old gelding and he is in VERY good shape but the thing is he sweats NO MATTER WHAT!! I feed him 1 flake of hay in AM and PM then a full scoop of premium shredded alfalfa, grain, and a cup of ricebran(he gets that mix twice a day) is there any specific food item that could make him sweat a lot?? he drinks about a bucket a day. *REMINDER** he is definitely in shape for sure!!! |

| How big is the bucket, if it is only 5 gallon bucket/day, he isn't drinking enough |

| My understanding is they need 20 gallons per day, since he swears more then others, I would ask for another bucket to be placed in as a just incase to prevent dehydration |

Location: Woodstown, NJ | How long have you had him? Has he always sweated a lot for no reason? Are there any other symptoms? Are there other horses in the barn with him and are they sweating too? Is his haircoat normal? It doesn't sound normal to me. Stress? Pain? Thyroid? I think I read somewhere a selenium deficiency will cause sweating. I don't think it would be the food. |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | Is he sweating when you ride him or just sweating while left alone. Where do you live ...like in kentucky where there is high humidity or in the north where the ice cap begins. It's not unusual for them to sweat due to humidity and high temperatures. Now if he is trembling and doesn't want to move the horse is tying up and needs immediate attention. I wouldn't do anything to make him not sweat but increase water intake and make sure he has aduquate salt. |
