Location: SE Louisiana | We used to use it on cows and heifers to synchronize them for E.T work and to do away with cysts.I believe I read somewhere it's not good for horses. |

Location: Oklahoma | we used it a lot on the TB farms to bring mares in transitional heat into heat. Yes, they will sweat. I don't have a problem using it at all. |

Both of mine acted like they were colicing. They would break out in sweat, roll, look at their sides. They were in obvious pain. I would ask your vet about other options to reduce the size of the cyst. |

| Yes, lutalyse can make them sweat and act colicky. My old vet used to have me use lutalyse. My current vet uses estrumate. It does not have the side effects of lutalyse. I believe it costs a little more. I have used both and would not hesitate to use lutalyse if needed, but if I could use estrumate I'd choose it instead and avoid the side effects. |

| Also wanted to add that my mare had a very large cyst on her ovary. We used the estrumate and then ultrasounded again to make sure we got rid of the cyst, and then I put my mare on daily Regumate. I tried the injectible but did not see consistent results so that is why I ended up using the daily. I pulled her off of regumate over the winter last year, and in the spring we had the same issue all over again. |

| I've used it on mares with a persistent CL- it works every time. Would never hesitate to give it again, the sweating and shaking is worth every bit of relief that follows.

Location: Big Blue Skies | How did you find the cyst? Did you ultrasound? I have a mare that has bad heats but when I had her ultrasounded everything looked normal. |

Location: SE Louisiana | I don't know if you can do this with horses, but with cattle they palpate checking the cycle situation and preg checking. They can feel a cyst just as easily.. |

| Hopefully you are just dealing with a transitional heat and a shot of Lutalayse , and the short period of discomfort it will cause (sweating, colicky mess) will be worth the relief your mare will get.
I have had to do this with two different mares, for every heat cycle after nothing else worked for them. However, in their cases, the vet would generally have to come out 3 days later and massage the now softened CLs gently via palpation, to get the offending CLs (yes, multiple) to release. It was the only thing that helped these mares and I ended up having to spay both mares.
Like I said, hopefully the Lutalayse will solve what is hopefully only a transitional issue.

Was at a barrel race vet was standing at fence talking to me when my daughter went to get on her mare she pinned her ears, rung her tail and kind kicked up with her back foot and he said she is acting like she could have hormonal issues. I'm kind of nervous about giving her the shot now after reading the bad responses. |

The colic was bad enough that my vet had to come out. Almost had to take her to the vet clinic. They were afraid she would have to have surgery. |

I would have an ultrasound done first before giving drugs blindly. The behavior could have something to do with the ovaries, but then again it could be something totally different. And if it is an ovary issue I'd want to know what specifically and then treat accordingly. |
