| I did and she came back stronger after the break. I would do it again. They are like people every mare will be different. |

| I didn't breed but I have my mare a random 6 months off and she came back awesome. Life just didn't allow me to ride her like I should so I just turned her out. I feel time off for any horse does some good. |

| We bred my boyfriend's calf horse 10 years ago. Started legging her up with the colt was 4 months old. Weaned the colt at 6 months and she was as good as ever for 9 years until she had a career ending injury at 19. She is bred now and should foal any day. |

Location: somewhere up north | The mare I am running right now we did this with. I also did it with her dam. Had them in shape. Ran them while pregnant. Had the baby. Shortly before we were going to wean the baby I started legging her back up. By fall/Oct I had her legged up and she has placed or won in the 1D and 2D for me since!! It really depends on the mare. I will say the mother took more time to get in shape as she was a bit more chubby. I just made sure they were both in good physical condition before I started. I wouldn't hesitate to do it because now I have another great horse coming up!! :) |

| Just remember alot of good horses never came "back" due to pregnancy/foaling related accident or issues. |

I don't think Kate carried hers though, pretty sure the babies were ET. |

Location: Texas | I think Kate carried at least one and ET'ed the other. Could be wrong. Either way, she was having a break during all that.

Location: Texas | I gave my #1 mare a year off to have a baby after a long struggle with injuries then EPM. She was sound and recovered from her suspensory injury, and had been treated for EPM and regained everything.. but she and I both were a little burned out and needed a break. So I bred her, let her carry, and I ran another horse. She foaled late April of 2014 and I was back on her in August. She has come back stronger than ever. I am riding her better, she is running better, and as a whole we are having less and less issues.
But do keep in mind.. there is always a risk of complication and disaster. It's a small chance, but it's there. I was worried the whole time that something would go wrong.. Thankfully everything was painless, I was there for the foaling, and everything happened as planned. |

| I bred my race mare, then tried to run her while pregnant-about 60-90 days along. I worked her twice and she didn't run nearly as hard as she can so I retired her for good. |

| We purchased a young mare in foal that had been futurited on. She foaled in March last year and I started back riding her again shortly after. I weaned the foal in August and started hauling her more. Right now she is running consistently in the 2D. Next month she'll be bred and she'll sit the rest of the year out again. I do plan on running her again next summer, after her foal is weaned. I'm not crazy about the idea of breeding her this year, but it was the right opportunity that I couldn't turn down. Her previous owners said she was insanely fast - and I don't see that from her. . . Not sure if having a foal has anything to do with that. She has enough speed, but nothing I would consider crazy fast.
In 2006 my good barrel horse was bred, and I continued to compete on her. It was actually the best season she ever ran. She foaled in January and I was back on her in April. Didn't change anything about her competitiveness. She came back the same.

i think she carried one of them but not sure. in a recent interview dena said that when she would take her to get preg checked she would have them look at the injury and after the baby was born she started legging her up slowly |

Location: Wearing a winter coat...... | I bred my mare twice and brought her back after. She had soundness issue but has ran strong for short periods. I finally gave up and have just left her bred. She won me 2 saddles while bred and I will say it never hindered her. My current mare is a 3/4 sister to some nice stallions (Traffic Guy-First Down Frenchman among others) She was bred 3 years ago and had a beautiful filly then came back just as strong. She is a rocket who looks as good as a super model after foaling! Runs hard and is in great shape. So pulling the brrodmare from the pasture doesn't bother me one bit! |
