Location: In between 4 ridges | Anyone have any experience with the Ford V-10?
I am looking into purchasing an older ('99) model to pull my trailer. Yes I would prefer a diesel. It just isn't in my budget right now. And I really can not pass up this deal.
I am not a Ford person. And know absolutely nothing about them...
I do know that it is going to guzzle the gas... How bad though?
I am looking for the good, bad, and ugly.
Any info would be great!
Thank you in advance!

V10 is a solid engine, but like most gassers that haul, they love the fuel pump. |

Location: In between 4 ridges | Thank you all!! I know I will not be passing many gas stations... Luckily I do not travel too far. I haul with a 454 Chevrolet right now and am used to it. Was just curious to others opinions on the V-10. I am hoping that this will be a good investment and not a lemon! |

I looked at one several years ago and was advised by a mechanic to not buy it. I have no experience with them. |

| I loved mine! I've owned several. They're quite beasty, but DO not buy with an automatic transmission. The gas will kill you.
Get a manual so you can baby the RPMs and keep the fuel use reasonable. |

Location: Ft Worth TX | I LOVE MY V10!!! More power then my 7.3L Diesel, cheaper oil changes, cheaper parts, cheaper to buy. Love mine and I only have 96000 miles on it. Drag my trailer all over tx and its an automatic. |

| We have an '04 F350 V10, standard dually. It is our work truck. Can't complain about how it tows, but it does use a lot of fuel and doesn't have much get up and go. I joke that it'll pull anything, but you might get to your destination before you reach top speed! It really isn't that bad, but I would much rather pull with a diesel. Our hauling truck is an '08 F350 dually and I would guess that it gets at least double the fuel mileage and has way more get up and go. We have a '95 F250 gas (not sure the specifics) that is still going strong. Same issue with fuel mileage, but it's a good truck too.
Just make sure you get it checked out by a mechanic before purchasing. Several years ago we purchased a diesel with a 7.3 because those were some good trucks. Unfortunately ours had issues that we didn't know about prior to purchasing. Sometimes deals are too good to be true for a reason. |

| I really do love my Dodge diesel for hauling. It's the way to go. That said, I think for a short range hauler, a V10 is going to do whatever you need it to do. |

Location: Buffalo, TX | My regular truck for pulling trailers is my Dodge diesel, but 2 yrs. ago I bought a 2000 Ford V10 250 4WD because it had a flat bed with a hydraulic bale spike with an inside switch on it...I got it real cheap because it needed a clutch and a front brake job (no biggee)...it had 180k miles on it when I got it and I have had 0 problems with it...the engine is very strong and it runs great...I drive it as much as I can to save miles on my Dodge....I'll probably keep it forever as a second truck as my other one is not a 4WD....I'm happy with the fuel mileage, not as bad as I thought...about 12 MPG is normal... |

| We bought a '99 F-35- V-10 new- yes it got awful mileage hauling, but it's been a good solid engine- no problems with it, and pretty peppy. We still use it as a farm truck, and use a newer diesel for hauling horses, but it's still always ready to go! |

| We had one and it was not a bad truck at all. I agree with what most of the other peeps have said. Fuel mileage is tough, got about 8 miles pulling, and it would pull anything, just not very fast. But hey, there are worst things! We got where ever we wanted to go!

| I sold Fords for almost a year, specialized in truck sales.
They're dependable and you don't get many brought in on trades which is always a good sign for the longevity of a vehicle. I would just have someone with mechanical experience comb over it. In my experience, Ford heavy duty trucks are very dependable. Their focus has been trucks for a long time and Ford has some of the best trailer hauling technology out there. Alongside saftey ratings and customer satisfaction ratings. Only trucks i'll buy are Ford anymore. And this is coming from someone who's owned many different brands of farm trucks, everything from chevy and dodge to nissans.
