I have a mare who is very sweet, fairly easy keeper, and I've been trying to get her on a good quality feed. She goes absolutely POSTAL on Strategy, we've tried a couple other things, she can't have anything over 10% (and not much of it, either a scoop once a day or 1/2 twice a day, plus quality hay & grass).

We have so much access to good grass and hay year round she's not depending on grain for much other than a treat & getting supplements/some extra nutrients down but I'd still rather her be getting something beneficial!

I suggest you look at something like LMF Super Supplement which is fed at one lb a day and gives the horse the vitamins and minerals she needs and it is good for protein etc. This keeps the energy under control .  You can always add a little veg oil if you need energy and that avoids adding sugar and starch which would send her over the edge. Good hay and grass can actually have plenty of energy and be quite high in sugars.  We certainly routinely founder horses on green grass here every spring. Some of our hays have clsoe to 30% sugars if very soft and grown under certain conditions. Rocket fuel!

Cheers,
Coastal Rider

Yeah, I'm going that direction. I almost always forget to search first, and I always get the slap on the hand for it haha. I do remember sometimes!
Thanks anyway though, everyone!
