Location: In The Snow, AZ | I would have gladly given a bill of sale at the time of sale.
To make a long story short-ish.....
I sold her a 22 year old, mustang gelding. I gave full disclosure that he was for very light riding, by her child only, as he had arthritis. And also that he needed front shoes at all times because he would get very sore on his front. This little guy had a very rough life, was abused, starved and beaten. Yet he was still a gentle little man. I just wanted him to have an easy retirement.
Fast forward 6 months. I get a text message from her demanding my farriers information because her farrier pulled his shoes and he was limping. Asked if I would sell her a saddle so she and her husband could ride him. And said I needed to send her a bill of sale for a hauling card so her trainer could haul him around. I politely told her that hauling cards aren't required in the state of AZ. She replied with, "you have 5 business days to send a bill of sale to my address or I am calling the Sheriffs Dept.". |

I put the offer on the table. She said with or without a bill of sale, the gelding is hers........I don't feel she is doing right by the horse per our aggreement. Nor do I feel she should be making demands and/or threatening me. That is why I don't feel I should have to write her one. |

Location: ND | Why would you not give her a bill of sale? She should have gotten one from you at the time of the sale. It's unfortuante that she's obviously not sticking to the agreement you made with her on how the horse should be ridden, but you sold him & the decision is hers on what she does with him at this point. |

^^^^ THIS........you sold the horse and relinquished any right to make demands on how they "use" the horse. Sorry! And yes, you should send them a bill of sale. |

Location: MD | Why would she want a bill of sale 6 months later? Sounds like she's trying to lay some legal stuff out... on you? I would consult with a lawyer before you give her one.
Yes she's owed one obviously, but why all the sudden is she worried about getting one? |

| She may need the bill of sale for many things.
Tax purposes, she may be askng now as she may be getting audited
(This is why you should be giving a bill of sale for your own tax purposes)
Insurance
Brand inspection
I do think it is unprofessional, also shady for someone to be refusing to give a bill of sale.
You sold the horse, you took money for said horse, I hope the new owners have proof of purchase, and if I was in the same shoes as them I would be ****y too if the previous owner refused to give me a bill of sale, I would be looking at my avenues on how to acquire one. |

I wouldn't have a problem sending the bill of sale. Just date it the date of the sale, your name and her info., the price and I'd make a note stating why the bill of sale is being issued on "this date" 6 months later. |

Location: on my horse | If I was a buyer of an older horse with known issues and sound for kid riding only I wouldn't be hounding the old owner for a bill of sale 6 months after purchase if I hadn't received one or seeking other avenues to obtain one. If I hadn't received one in the first place I wouldn't have been too worried because the investment wouldn't have been that much. If it was a rodeo horse or something that had a stellar pedigree behind it (broodmare etc) then I would be more particular about getting a bill of sale. |
