Extreme Veteran Posts: 538 Location: Nevada	So I just got a new baby and he desperately needs some groceries but will not eat grain. What are some of your guys tricks to get a baby to eat grain? TIA

Shipwrecked and Flat Out Zapped Posts: 16390 Location: DUMPING CATS AND PIGS IN TEXAS :)	I'd stall him a few days with free choice quality hay, clean water and about a scoop of grain twice a day. Change out the grain that he doesn't eat. Try a good quality complete sweet feed.....I'd use Nutrena 12 or 14%. He'll start eating.

More bootie than waist! Posts: 18425 Location: Riding Crackhead.	I've never had the problem. They start eating grain while still on the mares. Put them in with another horse - they'll figure it out.

The Color Specialist Posts: 7530 Location: Washington. (The DRY side.)	When I have gotten one that doesn't know about grain, I put the grain ON the hay. Personally. I've never had it tak emore than a few days doing it that way for them to start LOOKING for the grain.

Put them in with another horse - they'll figure it out. Same. If they didn't learn from momma; I usually watch them be nosy around their herd mates. My babies go from mare to mare picking at their grain buckets. After they are weaned if I grain out in the field they pick a friend and share... I just make sure they get their share.
