batkitty - 2015-04-13 3:22 PM I'm sorry you have to deal with people like that. Some people have to be mean to others to make themselves feel better. I'm trying to raise my girls to be different. We regularly buy some gift cards and there are some waitresses, people that work the windows at fast food places, and just random customer service people who when they are always nice we just give them a gift card or a really big tip. I do it and it's so nice to see some relief when they are appreciated. I love this one lady named Tabitha at our Taco Bell. She is amazing! One day a server at the window at Sonic seemed to be having a bad day so my daughter asked me if she could give him some of her Valentine's chocolate. He was so shocked, but took it and smiled. Hopefully you can get some customers who can show you the same appreciation!!! Where is Texas are you??? I'll be happy to try and make a special trip.... .

Bless you for your kind actions. As a person who used to work in public service I can tell you gestures like that can totally make someones day. :) ...And what a great example you are setting for your girls. There needs to be more like you in the world.

I've pretty much only ever worked retail....I get yelled at on a daily basis. It amazes me how rude people are and its made me want to find a job with 0 customer interaction. I don't even have time to write out all my stories I could share of the dumb things I've been yelled at over.

One thing I will say, just as future reference for everyone, even if the person you're talking to really did make a mistake, UNLESS whatever they did caused physical harm to you or a loved one, try to not be a raging ******* to them because chances are they've already been treated like dirt 60 other times that day.

Yesterday I walked into work and a co-worker was ringing up a lady. I could hear her just going OFF about something "someone" had messed up on, and saying how she didn't understand how someone could be so stupid to make such a mistake, and that "we spend a lot of money here and this is just insane." Um after she left I found out she was talking about ME. I had sold a corral panel to their friend yesterday and they were there to pick it up for her - and then it turned out the lady hadn't wanted a panel, she wanted a gate (but she had specifically said "I want the 10' panel in the ad", so I typed the SKU directly from the ad). The lady who actually BOUGHT the item wasn't even upset, my co-worker had talked to her on the phone. It was the lady picking UP the gate losing her mind. And when it was all said and done it was a $5 difference...and all they had to do was a normal return, it seriously took less than 10 minutes. They returned the panel, added a gate, paid $5, we loaded the gate for them and they left.

I'm actually lucky I had no idea that lady was talking about me because I would have been fired. I was LIVID after I found out it was ME she was calling stupid and dumb over something so absolutely asinine. It's a flipping livestock gate, I wish my life was so simple and perfect that the worst thing that ever happened was a cashier at TSC sold me the wrong item...and then fixed it.

You're a cashier at Tractor Supply?!?!
I love that place! We know just about everyone there by name and we chat every time we go in, which is at least two or three times a month. Don't let people with a crappy attitude bother you, just know that you're loved by so many others, lol.

Agreed. Love TSC! There are lots of us who are appreciative. I'm so glad that I finally got a job in my field (no customer service interaction whatsoever). I work at Panera Bread in a turnpike plaza and let me tell you....I don't know where to start. I think the most infuriating thing is the people complaining about the prices like it's our fault. People get so bent out of shape about it. Then, they treat us like slaves and act like they own the place! I try to give people the benefit of the doubt because I know what it's like to be traveling, but it really is ridiculous. I'm not a people person at all, but I think that I'm a pretty polite person in general and would never dream of acting as childish as some of the customers we deal with. And what I find hilarious is that most of the worst ones we have had were all of the older variety. You know, the ones who scream the loudest about "those **** young people and their lack of manners." It's so ironic it hurts.

I always hand people's cards to them as soon as I swipe their card. Just so I don't ever forget. Well a woman came back the other day and said I didn't give her card back. I looked around the register and it wasn't here. I told her I didn't have it, I thought I handed it back with the receipt etc. Then she starts yelling at me about wanting her card back. Well she finally opens her door saying "I don't have it!" I said "Is that it?" and pointed in her floor board lol. Well I'll be, if it wasn't the card she said she never got back...  she left pretty quick. She was a regular until that day. I'm not sure if she is ashamed of how she treated me for nothing, or if the smile on my face when she found her card in her car kind of turned her off a little lol.

People are so weird anymore.  If someone makes a mistake they act like it was a personal insult and they must retaliate.

My daughter has worked at the feed/farm and garden store in town for about 5 years. She started out cashiering and doing the books and then worked the floor in clothing and did books. Her boss has tried to promote her to department lead, but she refuses. She has told him many times that she should not be in a position where she works with the customers more closely. The Inventory Specialist position came open so she took that. She says the customers are awful and she would probably end up losing her job over one of them, so she doesn't want to be in a situation where that might happen. That's a sad reality when the local farmers, ranchers and livestock owners are a crappy bunch to deal with.

Β HA! I'm sure it's a little of both. We have a self serve coffee bar and people walk right past the coffee lids ALL THE TIME. They go straight to the soda fountain and try to put regular lids on our coffer cups. Then, some people get so angry and huffy about it and act lIke I'm plotting against them when I point them in the right direction. Then you have the ones that get food at the other restaurant right next to us and try to fit our lids onto their cups (quite impossible, I assure you). They get murderous! My favorite thing to do is watch the nastiest ones die a little on the inside when they become aware of their stupidity. Believe me,I've been the confused customer looking for something in plain sight, so I know what it's like to have "Well DUH" moments. I don't blame it on the workers though, when I'm the customer. I also don't blame most of the customers I deal with on a daily basis, but jeebus...the rudeness.

I work with people on a daily basis and you just never know what will happen each day. I do my best to kill them kindness but sometimes I just want to scream at them.

My husband can be very short and can come off as rude to most people its just how he talks but in reality he is a really nice guy and would help anyone. When we go out to dinner I sometimes have to remind him to speak a little nicer he tells me he dose not even realize it.

Yes, sort of! I work at Del's, which is a chain of feed stores owned by Tractor Supply (I think the Del's stores are only in WA, OR, ID and Hawaii). We have most of the same things, but TSC is bigger. We're like TSC's child lol

For the most part I love it, we're a small store with only 6 people, 5 of us being girls and customers are generally pretty impressed at how good we are at loading feed/fencing supplies/basically just getting the job done. And you know we have a pretty good handful of customers where I think if they witnessed any of us being cussed out over a mistake they'd probably defend us. We're all young girls, I think I'm the oldest at 25, and most of the farmers and ranchers that come in treat us like daughters haha

Well that is nice. I have some customers that tip me faithfully, usually my tip is more then what their total was. Β Even the people that give me an extra quarter here and there, it is appreciated. You would be surprised how quick that adds up!

I'm in AmarilloΒ

I truly wish I was closer to Amarillo as I am half way between Houston and Dallas!

I hope today brings you customers that appreciate your worth!
