 I Chore in Chucks

Location: MD | We aren't adopting right now but when we buy a house we will get a second dog. I'm kind of set on adopting, my boyfriend is too. Does anyone have any experience with adopting a greyhound after its racing career? or with greyhounds period? Obviously they are pretty quick and I don't know if a life on a farm is ideal. I didn't want a dog that big but I was also told they are pretty relaxed animals most of the time, so that would change things a lot! |

Sold a car once to a lady who ran a grey hound adoption foundation. From what I understand, they have a lot of nutrition needs, sometimes vet needs and LOTS of love and attention. Very effectionate animals. |

| My aunt adopts them and has had several. She lives in town, tho, so slightly different situation. They are very laid back in the house. They seem content with being inside and playing with toys. They take them outside quite often, but I have never seen them out off of a leash. Not sure how they would be turned loose outside, but I would imagine if you live in a very rural area, I wouldn't think they would be able to get into too much trouble. I know my aunt really loves having them. |

Location: KS | We raise them, we rescued our original 2 males and then later a female. They are kind, affectionate dogs, and very smart. Our are never leashed but we live in the country so when they are let out of their kennels they have free roam of the place. I regularly take one of the bigger males running with me and he stays within 5 feet of me (unless he sees something to chase-like deer, rabbit, etc) but always returns when the chase is over. They are sight hounds so you do have to be careful of that-if something runs they will chase it. We have several smaller dogs and they are great with them and with the kids. As far as nutritional needs ours are on a high fat diet and the puppies have to be supplemented with calcium since they grow so quickly.

| We adopted one and it was a total couch potato! She would do a couple laps around tree in the back yard and then lay down, super mellow laid back dogs! She was put down at age 12 for bone cancer. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I have never heard a bad thing about them. Been around a few and they are very loving and the house ones were very lazy. Loved to nap on the couch. I would take one in a heartbeat. |

Location: Pacific Northwest | A friend of mine had one, they lived in town but had a medium sized backyard. He would run around the yard but I remember him being pretty mellow in the house. He was a nice dog, we were younger kids back then (elementary school) so he was good with kids, plus they had cats and parrots. |
