I am familiar with them. He makes them here in So Cal and sells out of a little tack shop in Norco, CA. I'm not a big fan of the quality of his saddles.

Are they really low quality? Like a double T or something? Or more of a middle of the road?
So hard to know when you haven't ever seen one!

I don't know about Double T...but the ballard's have cheap Mexican leather and quite a few people I know have had problems with the tree breaking.

Hi, while searching to see if Tom Ballard has a website yet, I ran across this post. Just wanted to let you know that I am about to buy my 3rd Ballard saddle, since my son was 3 yrs old. I used to shop the barn he worked out of back in the late 80's and that first saddle I bought was great. Shes right, they r not made out of the top quality leather, but they arent $2000 either. my first one was $450 and second was $550. I just get em home and neatsfoot oil em up real good, a few times, so it can soak in. they are comfortable and sturdy. I had one horse lay in the santa anna river with my new saddle on and it cleaned right up. I wouldnt say they are bottom of the line. I know Tom Ballard, and I am always proud to put his saddles and tack on my horses. They ride nice, stay in place well, and fit good. For the money, you can't beat a Ballard saddle. thanks Tiff
