I noticed the other night that my mare has some swelling on the inside, upper part of both her hocks. This might sound like a really dumb question but I can't decide if it has always been like this or not. She acts normal and shows no signs of lameness or stiffness at all. The "swelling" is just squishy and I don't think it should be that way although it seems to disappear whenever she rests her leg and it becomes tight. That's what makes me think maybe it's normal. I did try cold hosing it at night and it seems to be a little better in the mornings. This picture shows what area I'm talking about. I compared to some of my older horses and theirs are much tighter. Then I compared to another one of mine that is 10
(and so is this mare
) and his were surprisingly similar to hers, not quite as much but in the same area.

I could be wrong but I believe it's the femoral artery. Winds down and goes down inside of hind legs.
