I have an amazing little barrel horse who has sore heels. We X-rayed and ultra sounded him and nothing came up. We have tried previcox, egg bar shoes, and leather lifts/pads in his shoes to relieve pressure and I just can't get him to stay sound. We have booked an appointment with the vet to get injections in his cannons next week so I'm praying that works and if it doesn't we will be doing navicular injections. Do you guys have any other suggestions/methods to help with this? He is only 12 and way to talented to retire yet and I just want him to get better, thanks guys.

I'd be interested in seeing pictures of his feet.

I agree contracted heels .. My mare has them on the back took radiographes and she wears a shoe on the that extends about out to the end of her heel bulb to support her heel without the support her foot will not open up and grow. She does have heel pain and until her foot comes back she is stuck going slow any hard speed sores her up.

I the heels are contracted it could take a while to get them back. I've had amazing results with these shoes.

Your farrier may look at you funny when you ask to put these on, but I know mine couldn't believe the results. They offered immediate comfort & we were able to get a tonne of growth & are now hoping to be able to go barefoot.

agree.  My little gelding has sore heels about every Spring, last year he could barely walk for about 3 days after we had him shod, this year it was much better..I just make sure I keep him off the gravel and put iodine on his feet for a few days after we see our shoer

You could try the perfect shoe. It's a poly that shapes to the hoof giving full support.See on youtube.
