Even "small" rated shows are $$. My old trainer used to spend easily 1500$-2000$ per weekend on stall and entry fees for one horse at local A and AA hunter shows. And you won ribbons and/or points most of the time. Lol
Its not for those without deep pockets(compared to 4Ds), but it's lovely to watch. |

Location: Missouri | If you wanna talk about daddy's money types this is the event! I did it for several years as well as my sister and we went to national competitions to compete $$$$$$$$$ Talk about more money then you care to spend. Trainers, board, clothes, horse haulers, entry fee, braiding, and that's in addition to everything else you have done. The most I ever won was crystal glasses and silver tea sets. It's mostly ribbons and banners to put in your house.
I loved it and would do it again in a heart beat but unfortunately daddy doesn't supply the money any more. :( I truly think everyone should at lease take English lessons to learn proper basics before they try other events. Nothing will teach you how to ride more then a tiny saddle and skin tight jods on a Thoroughbred with more energy then he knows what to do and the attention span of a 2 year old. Beautiful horses and wonderful riders but the running joke was always it was made for doctor's and lawyer's daughters. |

I think that's why I like to watch it, the beauty of it all. From the riders to the manes and tails. That sheen that could be used like a clean mirror. Lol! |

I rode h/j for many years, but never showed much due to the cost. After switching to running barrels, I didn't look back, but it is certainly a beautiful sport that I still love watching. |
