Location: Pa | I got offered a job at an " animal sanctuary " where I live. I went to check the place out... I promise this is no exaggeration. When we went to look in the barn the lady I was with asks before she opens the door, " how do you feel about rats? " I replied with, I am not affraid of them, we just kill them in my bar. Her reply "we do not kill rats here" I kid you not, as soon as she opens the door at LEASE 150 rats came flying out. They ran over our feet and I was told not to kick them. The entire barn was filled with them. You could not walk with out stepping on them. They were jumping on the deer and the pigs in the barn. They had dog kennels outside with 30 or so dogs. The dogs were so mean because they have not had any attention. They have a history of biting people. They dogs at this point ar 100% wild and I know there is no turning back once they get to that point. They were growling and spitting slamming themselves agains the fence trying to get to us. Most of them are there because they have bitten someone and they "rescued" them from being put down. They are so much worse off now. There were 3 horses. They warned me you cannot get close to them. They havent been touched or handled in a long time. They have history of kicking the people who give them their food. How should I go about this without getting myself into trouble with the owner.? I have left a message with the SPCA already this morning. I am waiting to hear back. |

Location: Pa | I think the reason half the animals are sick is because the rats are carrying diseases.. Its hard to see that and not do anything about it! I turned down the job. |

| Just wow! I bet they have a hard time keeping the rats out of the feed. I imagine snakes and other rat eaters are common also. That is an infestation. Scary! Sounds like the owner is a little coo coo, and apparently doesnt know all that much about animal welfare! |

Location: Missouri | I had to go through the local sheriff's department with a similar situation. The way it was explained to me, the ASPCA does not have legal authority to do anything. They can only intervene with law enforcement. Thankfully, I've only had this horrible experience once, and I could have been misinformed, but I just kept calling my Sheriff's office until something was done (and the head of ASPCA did become involved, even flew to the location.) End result, the offender moved and took all of her animals with her. So, basically none of the efforts helped. Definitely not like the TV shows... |

Dont worry about you getting in trouble with the owner, you can call but they wont said who turned her in unless you wanted them to. Kinda sounds like a spooky place. |

Ditto, don't know how you stood there and let the rats run all over you. I am not a squeamish person at all but that many rats, no thanks. I feel so sorry for those animals, a humane euthanasia would be better than the ife they are living. How does she support these animals?? I wonder if she is making money off of them. My daughter's boyfriend's dog was agressive (had tried to bite several friends) and after 3 years of living with them, he killed her little yorkie who he appeared to be best friends with. They were looking into sending him to a facility to be worked with and hopefully rehomed. This guy wanted 2K to work with the dog. A friend called them and said the guys place was horrible, that he would be thrown in a kennel and he would nerver touched or talked to again. They ended up putting him down.

I am finding this "story" a little "over the top" to be believable....That being said, call the Sheriff regarding "dangerous animals" (dogs) and the County Health Department regarding the rat infestation. |

Honestly , I wish I were making it up. I'm not the first person to make a complaint about this place either. Unfortunately every word is true. I was just sharing for advise on how to go about taking care of the situation . I did get a call back and they are sending someone to check the place out. |

Location: Florida.. | If the story is true then .... Id call sheriff and ASPCA.. report it and Id not worry if she found out who.. the thing that bothers me is "some" rescues or sanctuaries get donations for the animals.. and some get ALOT of donations.. they play the poor animal routine and another soft hearted person sends money.. in the end none goes to the animals or the care.. so if indeed this is happening and they call themselves a rescue they need shut down and usually they will shut them down if they feel necessary.. |

All I know is they were sending people out to look at it. I haven't heard anything else. I don't know if I will until it's in the news or something. |
