Speeding up on the pattern....and some questions?

Today a friend finally convinced me to quit babying one of my fillly's and let her lope though at a faster pace and well just "trust" her in general. So I did and it turned out pretty darn good. I do I have a few questions about issues with her. It seems she is wanting to speed up to turn, not rush, but just really power in and out. She is a BIG mare that runs like a small horse, if that makes since. She is super turny and ratey, so I have been playing with different ways of working her though the pattern at a trot. For a horse like I described, what is the best way to do slow pattern work. Rate points or just trot though? As when I let her speed up, coming out of her first and second barrel she gets a little "crazy", She humps up like she just wants to buck, buck , buck. I usually get after her, but I worry about me getting after her in between barrels slowing her down?

How old is she and do you have a video? Hard to judge without seeing it. I think a mix of rate and trotting can work. Sounds like she may be rushing her entrance and exit into her turns some and getting too excited with the new added speed. If her turns have been good at the slow lope thus far I might be tempted to add the speed, faster canter, on all aspects expect the turn. Where you'd rate bring her back down to trot and then coming out of the barrel add your speed again. If she can comfortably transition from a trot to a decent speed canter then you can increase the intensity to a slow lope around barrels and work up from there. The feeling of wanting to buck would make me question if it's too much too fast or if there are some other issues going on.

I don't have a video of her sped up. Hoping to get one tomorrow. She is 6 this year, I have started her slow because of me having a little guy ect. I only started recently asking her to speed up, since a good friend telling me it needs to be done. She thinks my mare is bored at slow work is why she is picking up these little knick knack behaviors. I like your idea on loping her up to the rate point and breaking her down to a trot around and then back to lope. I brought that up at practice as well as a thought.
