Location: The best kept secret in TX | Recently I was asked by a well known bit maker, and friend, to let him know what kind of bit he could make me as a gift for my baby shower. (Thought it was cute/kind for him to offer me a bit since it has nothing to do with babies but that's his comfort zone and level of expertise. lol)
Now the question is: What the heck do I ask him to make for me? He's wanting, width, twist, diameter, weight, shank length, ring diameter. EVERYTHING. He makes barrel bits mostly but has made lots of other types of bits as well.
I currently ride my gelding in a weighted snaffle bit to practice in and a twisted copper wire snaffle mouth wonder gag to run barrels in. I've never had a NICE bit per say. I've just bought what was on sale and stuck with what worked. My gelding works great in the wonder gag and I like the lift it gives him.
I'd like to keep the Makers name to myself since he is a friend to me first and since he is making the bit for me as a gift for my baby shower and not a business transaction.
I wish I had my gelding legged up and could have him watch my horse run and see if I needed another bit in his eyes. I swear that man can bit a horse better than the horse itself...
What would ya'll build?

Can you see if he will wait until you are riding again so he can watch you? If he would be willing to wait, this is what I would do if he can see those types of things.

I'll have to ask him. I'm with you, I think it would be better.
Now I'm curious what everyone else would build if it was them.

Do you have some videos you could look at with him so he could see what your horse needs?
If I were to get one made, I'd get exactly what I run my gelding in now...with a pretty shank :) Chain mouth lifter with 7" shank
