Pat Burton in Fort Worth is one of the very best in the business. I used him while I was down there. He is actually the judge for the farrier contest at the Fort Worth Livestock Show, Dallas State Fair too I think. He ain't cheap but he's good.
I live in Whitesboro now, about 30-40 min north of Denton. I use one of Pat's students, Bear Reed. I have both their phone numbers if your friend wants them. They both do a solid job. Both can and will occasionally show up late. I put up with it though because they do a good number on my horses' feet.
ETA: Most of the reason they are occasionally late with me is because I always get mine done in the evening and if they have a problem at one of their earlier appointments it can set stuff back. They are usually good at letting me know and why.
