I believe Smart Little Lena was an app, I know there was a son of Doc OLena that was an app. Jimmy Little Smith or a name like that (I cant be positive because it was 20 years ago ) in Texas around Dallas. I have't thought about that in along time. I paid 5000 for an app barrelracing horse, had to buy from Wisconsin and have him shipped because there were literally NO appaloosa barrelhorses in Within a hundred miles or maybe the whole state
Smart Little Lena was not an app. Sorrel with rabicano gene.

Location: Bama | If I were looking at two different horses say AQHA and ApHC, both were the same price and clocking the same times, I'd go with color! |

 Own It and Move On
Location: The edge of no where | BamaCanChaser - 2015-06-01 11:05 AM I buy horses for resale all the time and I wouldn't consider an appy at all. There are the diehard appy fans out there, yes. But all of the appy fans I Personally know, that love them FOR their color, don't buy horses in the price range I would expect to see a 1D/2D horse in. Flame suit zipped up, but that is how it is in my area.
I know where a nice proven 1D mare is for sale right now. She is pretty and solid black, but has appy papers. Even though nearly every horse on the papers is a quarter horse. I can't beleive she hasn't sold yet, but I have no doubt the papers are making people shy away because she really is a nice mare.
^^Great summary!
I'd pass on resale. |

I agree. I see Nicole has a Lena May baby for sale and she shows his Palomino Breeder papers. It is a great sales ploy not to say he is a solid app. But by the prices of all her others for sale you can see there is a huge price difference when comparing apples to oranges as far as registration papers. I think it mainly matters on a mare and like SG said a good horse is a good horse. |

I'm fairly certain I remember her saying that Lena May didn't have "regular" ApHC papers, which means her offspring wouldn't be eligible for ApHC papers unless sired by a stallion with "regular" ApHC papers. Therefore, the pally papers are probably all that he has.

| My opinion has not changed, it won't change, and I don't care who doesn't like it. You could not pay me a million dollars to own another appaloosa horse. Every one I have EVER rode was 15 shades of crazy, and honestly? They are just ugly horses. I can tolerate the roanish ones, and maybe a small blanket, but that's about the extent of decent in the breed.
(I love paints though, I would give the world for a winning paint horse.) |
