 Am I really the Weirdo?

Location: Kansas | My horses and I got off to a slow start to the summer rodeo season, but we finally had a good weekend and looked like we knew what we were doing! Friday night, Chance and I ran in deep wet sandy mud and ended up two spots out of the money, less than two tenths of a second from getting paid. For his first mud run in probably 2 years, I was proud of him. https://youtu.be/4LLvYEIzp9s Saturday night, we got to run indoors at a covered pen where he has done really well in the past, but then lost confidence in the ground for a while. He hadn't run there since 2013 but worked pretty well and if I hadn't been too lazy to lift my leg at the third barrel, we'd have been right in the thick of things. I don't think we were quite going to get a check thanks to our second barrel but he worked pretty well and given that pen's reputation for iffy ground, I'm not going to pick on him too much because I don't know what he felt when he set for that barrel. https://youtu.be/ojxkPW8dyBQ Sunday, we went to an NBHA jackpot and Matt didn't get to take his horses since he was on call for work and might need to leave at any moment. I offered to let him run Chance so he had a shot at some points for the year end standings, and I thought they made a nice smooth run. They were 5th in the 2D and 11th overall out of 71 entries, which is pretty good for Chance in a small pen. Matt has run him 5 times now, but the other 4 runs were all back in 2013. https://youtu.be/ojQlhUUbLBI With Chance running for Matt, I pinned my 1D hopes on Clifford and he didn't disappoint. Though we totally blew our first barrel, his speed made up for a lot of it and he got third in the 1D, 4/10ths faster than Chance & Matt. For a long time, Cliff was leading the race and I was feeling bad for sticking Matt & Chance in the bottom of the 1D crack. LOL. https://youtu.be/CRZ8cKxNkTU I also got to run my Joker for the first time in two months. He missed our last points show with a bump above his eye (I have 4 horses and a 3 horse trailer so I left him home for the weekend and ran the other 3) but he didn't miss a beat yesterday. He walked flat footed to the gate, paused while they finished setting a barrel, and then made his typical businessman run. I believe we were 11th in the 3D but less than a tenth from getting money (paid 4) even though he slipped really badly at the second barrel. Of course the camera batteries died just as we were starting our run, but shoot, all of Joker's runs look the same anyway. |
