Don't Wanna Make This Awkward Posts: 3106 Location: Texas	I'm assuming with all the rain I can't be the only one having ths problem.. How do you treat it? I've been soaking his legs in 10 % bleach 20% epsom salts and the rest water.. Then cleaning it off with beta dine and wrapping it with DMSO/furazone cream.. Anything else I can do or should change? Expert Posts: 2604 Location: Texas	Stop soaking! Water is the enemy in this case. Try to keep them dry at all times. I use Keratex Mud Shield Powder and it works great. Or get some "Fungis Meds Salve" from your vet. Or you can make some with 4 oz Extra Strength Desitin, 2 oz Cortizone & 2 oz Neosporin. Don't pick at the scabs. Put the salve on and let the scabs soften and come off by themselves. Picking & scrubbing only makes it worse. Edited by TBone 2015-06-10 12:24 PM

I washed his legs with Microtek shampoo and then liberally sprayed his legs (with the Mircotek) and made him stand tied (in the dry area) until his legs dried off and then turned him back out. Did this for about a week and he was good to go, but I didn't have a severe case. The vet said to come see him if he started oozing out and we'd get some antibiotics. TwistedK told me to get some Destin cream to help soothe it and seal it, but I kept forgetting to pick some up.

Should I still put the salve on the affected areas or just go straight to the powder? I will have to order the powder so that will take a couple days.

Red Bull Agressive Posts: 5981 Location: North Dakota	I battle this all the time with my horse! The destin/neosporin/cortizone works ok. It didn't completely clear up my horse's. Usually I put iodine on the area and let it sit for 10 minutes, then put the ointment on. Lately I've just been putting vetricyn gel on it because his leg seems to swell up more with any cream/ointment on. My vet checked it out and said he does not need antibiotics, it's just a pain.
