and I know they have a place where they use it and make gowns for babies that pass away. I have 2 boys and really don't expect their future wives to want my wedding dress. Are any of them out there better than others? Any scams?

This is the first place that started this kind of program up. I am waiting on a response back from them. I want to donate it where they parents won't have to pay for the burial gown for their babies.

A friend donated to this one:

They have pictures of some of the ones they have done, they are pretty. They also take bridesmaids dresses.
They sent her a pretty little hanky with some trim from it.

My mom sent hers to this place :-) ^^^ She had a good experience and ending up donating a bunch of super nice silk fabric she had squirreled away to them as well.

Does Angel Gowns charge the parents? I always assumed they gave them the gowns.

That's the question I have sent some of them. I do not want the parents to get charged.

It says that angel gowns are free to any hospital or family that asks.  That is who I contemplated sending mine to... just haven't gotten the courage to yet.  I did however convince my mom to try to volunteer for them.  It must be one heck of an organization because they told her that they had so many volunteers to make gowns, that they would take down her information and contact her when she was needed.

my house is old and the basement can get damp so I have been keeping it at my grandparents for the past 15 yrs. They are neary 90 and starting to go through things and get rid of a lot of junk. I decided I better do something with that dress. I really have no emotional attachment to it. I have 2 beautiful boys from my marriage and plenty of wedding pictures. I had heard of these places that take them for the sweet babies that don't go home, but I kind of forgot about them until recently when my dad asked what I wanted to do with the dress. I can't think of a better thing to do with it. I lost a baby when I was 5 months pregnant so the idea is near and dear to my heart. I just want it to go to families and them not have to pay for it. The NICU ones sounds like the best one out there.

After hearing that Locks for Love was not totally honest with what they do with your hair, I am just wanting to make sure the right people benefit. Thanks to all that commented. I'm excited about this. I know I won't hear from them but I hope those that are unfortunate enought to need the gown get some peace from it.

Hey! My mom is with NICU Angel Gowns.Yes, they are absolutely free to families that need them. Mom can email a pic of the gowns made from your dress and a swatch of fabric, if you want. I'm posting from my phone but her facebook page is something like: Mickey McDonald NICU Dresses.

Oh that is great! I don't need a swatch back, just want it to go to a beautiful cause
Do I need to wait until Sep? Or can I mail it sooner?

I am so glad I saw this! Thank you! I wanted to donate mine after I got married in 2009 but the place I checked into was full at the time and wasn't accepting dresses. I completely forgot about it after that.

I just shared her page on my FB page.  My daughter and all her friends are NICU nurses.  Her work is beautiful.  What a blessing that she does this.
