what are some causes of persistent lower back pain? Horse's hocks were injected the 29 and horse was started on THE gastroplus the 28. Horse was running top of the 2d against true 1d horses and is now balking at the gate and running somewhere in the 3d. Pattern looks good, just not fast. Saddle fit is not the issue.

my horse gets sore in the back when he has ulcers. The only thing that works for him is omeprazole, I tried all of the natural supplements and nothing works like omeprazole. I treat him for at least 21 days and then do a maintenance dose day of a run.

I had a younger up and coming with persistant lower back soreness. Sore hocks was the first thing we took care of. Also had his SI's injected. Had his back x-rayed and a few of his vertebrae had rubbed a small amount but the vet didn't consider it kisisng spine. I put him on Platinum CJ and he seemed to feel a lot better and he definitely looked a lot better. Also treated for ulcers, had him chiropracted, teeth done, laser and massage. I tried aculife patches and did notice quite a difference, but overall I could never get him to not be sore. He was the kind of horse who couldn't work if there was any bit of soreness so I finally sent him down the road. I say all this just to give you any ideas that you hadn't thought of. I wish you the best of luck!

Kidneys?  My gelding was a pill to adjust the other day and yesterday I had to haul him to the vet yesterday because he was acting colicy and the vet poked on his back and says he thinks has a kidney infection because he's so sensitive.  Not sure if it's the same type of lower back problem you're experiencing.. just thought I'd throw it out there!

Kissing spine.

Kissing spine can cause sore hocks, sore stifles, SI problems etc. I X-ray a sore back in a heartbeat and also every prepurchase exam.

I agree with above. Check for kissing spine, a simple back xray can give you a lot of info

Mine was kissing spine. Initially my vet didn't think it was because it's not as common in the lower back, but she x-rayed it and sure enough his worst lesion is in his lower back but he has SDP's that are too close together all along the latter half of his spine. A round of back injections plus theraplate, anti-inflammatory supplements, and topline strengthening has gotten his back from practically folding in half when you put pressure on it to only slightly flinching if you run your hand all the way down his back (you can come up and just press on it and it doesn't bother him at all).

My horse was sore because he was trimmed to long and grew out faster, so it out tension on those ligaments/tendons. Got him trimmed up and did some stretching and massages and no issues now!
