I recently purchased a "gelding" who was a perfect gentleman while checking him out and riding . He is such a sweetheart. I bought him and when I let him out with my mare in the pasture ... Well let's just say he acts 100% like a stallion .. Has anyone had any experience with this before ? I know absolutely nothing about this. I've never even heard of it before.. Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm confused. Is he a cryptorchid or a bonafide gelding.

He may not be a cryptorchid but may be proud cut.

And there's another thought!

That doesn't necessarily mean he's a cryp. He may be a cryp, proud cut or he may just be a gelding that likes the girls.....i've known more than one true gelding that will still try to jump a mare.

I'm not sure what he is.. All I know is he is getting the job done it seems 100% my farrier brought up him being crypt when he saw how he acted.

Your vet can pull blood and test testosterone levels. That will give you an idea of what is going on.

I keep my mares and gelding separate for this reason. None of them are crypt or proud cut but they all will act like the own a mare or mares at some point so it's just easier for me to keep them separate. Unless your gelding is always doing this
(which may indicate an underlying issue
) see if he calms down in a week or two.
Sometimes all those raging mare hormones just send them into a tizzy.

and I have a mare that is so foxy to everyone that she gets almost ALL the geldings aroused and trying to breed with her and the other marea around her into season with her. So it may just be he loves the ladies.

I have just done a blood test and my gelding has high testosterone levels. Is there anything to give them or a shot to control this??

Talk to your vet about putting him on Regumate. This advice was for readytowin.

Let me add that I do have a "Foxy" mare that doesn't help matters. He has settled down in the 3 years they have all been together
(married 3 years ago
). I have 3 mares and my husbands 1 gelding. He was kept either by himself or with another gelding before we married, which he is mid 20s now. He will get the job done if you know what I mean, but only with that one particular mare. I have never seen him mount my other mares. I have had to separate him for being to possessive at times
(early on
), but the older he gets the more docile he seems to be.
But I do sometimes wonder if he wasn't cut later in life
