| I just wanted to share a bit about a couple of girls, one my daughter and one her friend. We run in a local gymkhana club mostly because it is a cheap place to get the horses out and spend time with friends. This year my daughter was all set to make a run at the saddle in her division then a friend called her and was upset because the horse she planned to use wouldn't pass a vet check and could not be run. She had just lost her own horse last fall to an injury. So my daughter told her we would put her on something, I planned to let her ride my young gelding just so she could participate but he sold a week before we started running. So my daughter told her to just ride her mare and she would take her 5 yr old , she knew that would pretty much put her out of the running since her mare only runs barrels and barely started on poles but couldn't see her friend miss out. Her friend lives 50 miles from us so not able to practice much but she jumped up and was tied for the saddle at the second to last gymkhana and ended up second in a very close race. She did such a good job of riding a horse she didn't know and the mare is not an easy ride because she is lazy and if she thinks she can get away with cheating she will so you have to ride hard. My daughter ended up third overall and came so far on her young horse. It is a reminder to me to be kind and help when I can , the friends mother came over in tears telling us how rough the last year had been and that this is just what her daughter needed. Sorry for the ramble but proud of both girls ! Here are a couple of pics hopefully, the brown horse is my daughter and the other is her friend.

Location: NE Texas | That is super cool and what a great daughter you have! I went to a local playday this weekend to work some things out on my horse in a "no pressure" type situation and it really brought a smile to my face. Mostly young kids and teenagers there and the entire night I didn't hear one kid back talk a parent or be hateful or disrespectful to another kid. In fact it was quite the opposite. The people in the stands clapped and cheered for every person that entered the arena, including me, and I didn't know anyone there except one person. There was a young girl, probably 13, there on an old gaited mare. She had never been to a playday and her mare didn't know the patterns or events, and I could hear the other young girls talking her through it saying "You got this, girl, go have fun!" as she entered the arena. And they cheered and coached her from the alley.
It's been a long time since I have been to anything other than a divisional barrel race or rodeo, and it warmed my heart to see young people out there encouraging each other, parents and siblings cheering for every single person, and just an overall positive experience for everyone there. I personally had a great time and look forward to going back. It was great for me, great for my horse, and reminded me once again that there are still good parents out there raising good, respectful kids that understand what life and friendship is truly about.
Thank you for sharing the story about your daughter and her friend! That is very cool! You're obviously a great mom and are raising a great young lady! |
