Hyper Extended Front Leg - Anyone dealt with?

I'll try to attach pictures of my one mare that were taken at 2 weeks post injury. Swelling has gone down a bunch but it's still there - wish I had taken pics the day after as it was horrible looking. Evil gelding turned on her when I brought a new mare home even though I didn't even let the new horse out with them. My best guess as to what happened overnight is he ran her into the fence and she got hung up as the fence was damaged and she was all scraped up
(some were bite and kick marks too
). The scrapes and cuts are not an issue but the girth/leg injury has me nervous on long term issues.
Vet says "hyper extended leg with possible muscle tearing" and she's to be on rest for months with
(obviously
) no riding and has to be on bute for another 8 to 18 days.
Anyone dealt with something like this and has any advice or long term prognosis? I'd love to hear from others...

I guess I should add is that she's not noticeably lame unless you flex her leg forward or ask her to turn sharply. I have still been cold hosing too.
And since no one has responded yet I'm starting to think she is just accident prone enough to get all the odd/rare injuries...lol
