Has anyone else out there had issues with horses allergic to mosquito/fly saliva?
I have a 10 year old daughter out of Strawfly Special.  Last summer I had this mare in pasture and I noticed that she had started to lose weight and was developing HUGE welts along with swelling at the lymph nodes.  I had her moved her into the indoor stalls, and she picked up weight again. However, she's in an outdoor shed row this year as we moved recently.  The mosquitos are RAMPANT and I can't keep them at bay; 3 major farms down the way are spraying twice a day!  My veterinarian just recommended that we spray which we've been doing along with using scrim sheets and masks.

Thus, my question is, does anyone else have a horse with allergies to fly or mosquito saliva? I believe I've heard it said that Strawfly Specials have a genetic allergen, but I didn't pay attention at the time. (Her dam is out of Mr. Jess Perry; not sure if that line has any issues).

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
Anyone else dealing with insane mosquitos populations?  Would appreciate any feedback, tips, etc. :)

My guy has hives, he has been on 10 days of a steroid, injections everyday. And I have tried everything. He has had these bumps for a year, so I didn't think it was bites. But now I don't know..

I'm sorry to hear that.  :(  Have you tried Immune Support from Silver Lining?   I swear by anything Silver Lining makes since it's helped me over the years wtih so many things. Plus, Mickey is such a nice person.   The Liver Support helps my mare, but it's still not enough. Poor things.  I hate when they have to suffer.

My granddaughter of Strawfly Special was HIGHLY allergic/sensitive to fly bites. I always kept a fly sheet on her and it helped immensely. I sold her but since then I have started using Silver Lining Herbs. I use the Immune Support on my 2 year old that is also very sensitive to fly bites and all her hives have disappeared---I swear by that product and many of their other products.
