Location: Florida | Okay, so in wet Florida White Line Disease seems to be an ever-present problem. No matter how hard I try to officially rid my horses' hooves of it, it's never fully gone. But I can't be the only one continually battling White Line. Does anybody out there know of any good preventatives, treatments, or CURES for the wretched thing? Thank you all! |

| My vet and farrier say there is no cure. My vet said to have my horse trimmed every 4 weeks. That is what I do. |

Location: NC | I have a mare I am dealing with it with right now. It was hard to find any kind of medication to use since she is turned out 24/7 with out a clean dry stall to keep her in. I recommend Hawthorn Freeze sole or freeze hoof something like that. When you place your order let them know its for whiteline and they have an applicator bottle that makes it perfect to get into the cracks. They also have a sole pack you can stick in the cracks between medicating. The people there are really nice and helpful too. NOW if I could just get my DANG farrier to come out regularly and not make me chase him down each time....   |

Location: NE Texas | I will post this topic on www.secondvet.com and see if Dr. Schell can help us shed some light on white line disease and how to treat. I am not currenlty dealing with this issue, but I have in years past and have a friend who is also currently dealing with it. I think we need a professional opinion on the ins and outs of this disease and how to best manage and treat. |

Location: Montana | I'm dealing with it here in Oregon, just when we think we've almost got it. It flares up again. I've been using White Lightning which is made for getting rid of white line. I've been mixing it with white vinegar and using a syringe with a curved tip applying it. And I also put it in a soaking boot and let it soak overnight. |

Location: Southern Oregon | White lightening.....LOVE that stuff!!!! I had a BIG platter footed gelding end up with a horrid case or white line disease. With the help of my farrier and vet we got it under control. took almost two years for one front hoof the other three where milder cases and only took a year.
I wanted to add.....that we used a bag around his hoof with the white lightening. The fumes is what helps the most into getting into the hard to reach cracks.

I have been using White Lightning on my horses also. I guess I won't be able to tell how well the treatments are working until the diseased part of the hoof begins to grow out, but the stuff came highly recommended and I have read some great things about it. Here's hoping! :)
My new farrier has suggested I use Keratex on them regularly...he said it acts as a barrier/preventative and also treats white line disease. Guess I'll give that a try as well! |

Location: Arkansas | Dr. Vice at Dixie Equine told me there is only 1 way to get rid of white line and that is to take a dremel tool or sharp knife and open up the tunnel where the bacteria is eating it's way up the hoof wall (you can google this and it will show you some pics) this lets oxygen in and the bacteria cannot thrive where oxygen is present. He also gave me a bottle of CleanTrax which you mix with 1 gal of water and pour it into an IV bag after you have the bag on your horses foot then put duck tape around the top of the bag to hold it on the horses leg, I also apply vet wrap on top of this and carry it up the horses leg to help keep everything nice and tightly applied. We have 6 horses and they all have had it...I check them after the farrier trims them and usually have to use my dremel to open the tunnel back up some...you follow the tunnel up the hoof wall until the black bacteria ends and that's where you stop. I have opened up a couple of my horses hooves about 3/4 of the way up the front hoof wall...it looks weird but it's working..we pretty much have almost got eveyones hoof grown back out and no white line in sight....Hope this helps! |

Location: Arkansas | FYI I soaked and soaked for 2 years trying to get rid of white line with the mixture of concentrated Lysol and water that Pete Ramey suggests to no avail. My horses are all barefoot and I am a huge fan of Pete, but when Dr. Vice heard me say I had been battling white line for 2 yrs he said "We don't try and get rid of white line, we kill it with oxygen and Cleantrax" I have always trusted Dr. Vice and always will...he hasn't let me down in the 5 or so years I've been using him. |

Location: At the barn | Clean Trax and White Lightening both didn't work for me. I've been using Sav A Hoof products for a week now. One is a time release gel that goes on before they nail the shoe on. Im hoping this works for me! |

Location: Sunny So Cal | My friend finished up 5 or 6 bags of nitroxide and it seems to be doing well. **knock on wood** did 2 scoops twice a day for 2 weeks, then 2 scoops once a day for 3 weeks then did 1 scoop a day after that. The foot is growing out normal so far and its been 5 months |
