So, one of my mares is starting to give me a little bit of a fit sometimes. She is not marish at all when she's at home and when I ride alone. This weekend I went to a show, and didn't even know she was in heat until we went to leave. I was picking up a friend to ride with me, and my mare started squirting all over the place when we loaded him in the trailer. Then when we got to the show, we tied them on opposite sides of the trailer so no one would get hurt, but all she did was whinny and squirt and pee. We couldn't let them see each other all day long.

So, here's the things that I think caused this:
1-- The gelding acts like he's proud cut. He drops his junk almost constantly and sniffs and knickers at her. (The gelding she lives with could care less, which is why I think I didn't notice til we loaded her horse up to leave)
2-- I think she gets attached to a horse she hauls with. If she goes alone she's great.
3-- She was in heat. I think if she was not in heat, she still would have whinnied, but not been nearly as bad.

Do you think this is a situation that regumate, or something like it, would be a good idea for?

I read the instructions, and it says you give it for 15 days, then stop? Is that only when you are using it for trying to get a mare bred? So for trying to use it for managing heat symptoms, do you just give it constantly? Is there any other thing that might help with this? I saw something called mare magic, but it's cheap, so I'm guessing it probably doesn't work, but you never know.

Any help with this situation that you would recommend, would be helpful! Thank you!

I gave the injectable, which is about the same cost as the oral, to my broodmare for about 5 months and it ran about $600 for that long. Like I said, the costs are about the same which ever way you go.

A mare, and my gelding I hauled this weekend were just like this!!!!mares in heat and gelding thinks he's a stud muffin. I put them suckers on opposite sides of the arena and put them where they couldn't even see each other but I could, and it worked. Sure they whinnied a little but eventually they settled.
