Location: North Dakota | I got this hack in a trade to see how he goes in one. Does it look to low or does it look good? I couldn't really adjust it because the curb chain was rusted shut and I need some manly help to get it replaced.

Location: Oklahoma | I've been riding with hacks since the 1970's. Have had a lot of hack makers tell me how to adjust them, and each one sits differently on the nose. I actually would drop this one hole, if it was me. If you get them too high, you lose all your side pull and hacks don't have much, anyway. If you get them too, low, you will restrict the breathing, but you can usually tell when you do that because you wil hear the horse trying to breathe...I would put it as low as you can without restricting the breathing. My rule of thumb is 3 fingers between the noseband and the corner of the horse's mouth. Curb chain looks fine. Again, if the curb is too tight, all you have is straight back pull and not much side or one shank pull. This looks like a short shank Stivers and they're not designed to sit high on the nose. Edited to add: Idk if you can blow up my avatar pic and see the noseband on that hack and where it sits or not, but that's where I like them.

Location: North Dakota | This is it taken down a hole on each side. Thoughts? Also I put another curb chain on and on the largest setting I can JUST get 2 fingers between it and him. Is that too tight or alright? I rode him around a little bit and his steering and breaks seemed good but we hardly even trotted because he sored himself up a bit from stomping flies....we really need some shoes!

Location: The Great Northwest | It is a rule of thumb too to keep the pressure off the soft cartledge. When the chain is too tight like one finger only, the hack isn't going to operate. |
