In May we bought my mom this wonderful little mare. Fast forward to last week. My sister's mare Hope is in full blown heat. We got to thinking.. hey, mom's mare has yet to come into heat. And, we got to looking.. she looked pregnant to me. But horses can be fat and just look pregnant.. but, we have had four babies born here now and pregnant mares just have a look to them. So, we took her in today to get checked. Yep, she's got a pregnancy in her left horn, at least 4 months along. Vet couldn't give us any better than that.

Now the fun part.. Im PRETTY sure the previous owners told us she was turned out with a mini donkey stud, because I distinctly remember saying is there any chance she's pregnant. They said oh no, there's no way he could reach her. Also, the day we tried her, they had a 3 YO bay QH stud at the same arena that someone was trying. So, there's two potential baby daddies here.

We also swore we felt the baby kick last night.. which if we truly did, that means she's way more than 4 months along and she's in her 3rd trimester. But I am not 100% sure.. it could have been muscles or gut sounds or lord knows.

But anyway... a baby SOMETHING is coming at SOME POINT.

Also.. good thoughts and prayers would be welcome. Its way too late to know if she has twins or not and I don't know when she needs her pneumabort shots or anything. It was a very long hard search to find a horse gentle enough for my mom to ride and I would hate for anything bad to happen to this horse. My mom absolutely loves her.

Previous owners swear it can't be the donkey because he was only a yearling when they were together. But, who knows. They did say they randomly checked her in Feb when they put her up for sale "just to make sure she wasn't bred" which makes me think... they had to see something?? IDK? Well, she happens to be preggers LOL.

Yea, why check her if there was no possibilty.  It will be an adorable baby, probably one you do not need though.  Let the waiting game begin to see what you get!

I saw the stud she could have bred with when we tried her and he was cute, just teeny tiny. she's not big either, maybe 14.2... Previous owners said they would fill out all the paperwork when it gets here so if it's not a mule, which I'm still hoping for, we should be able to get it registered. Hoping at least.

If you were closer I would buy the mini mule off you!!!! I saw one the other day at a barrel race that was a babysitter for a high strung horse that didn't want to be tied to the trailer alone. I have one colt that hates being alone. I am looking for one of these. I do not like the idea of a goat and the mini mule wont take any crap and keeps those colts whipped into shape!

i've had so many people want it if its a mule! Odds are, it will be a regular horse.. but I really wanted a mule. He would have been our new barn mascot.

How fun! A barn mascot!
I vote for the mini :
But I think it's great that you have such a great attitude about the whole situation. Good for you for being such a great sport about the whole thing!

Is your Mom excited about a potential baby?

At first no. she was pretty sad because she's been riding this mare and now that she knows she's in foal she doesn't want to get on her in case she hurts something. She rides really lightly.. like, 15 minutes of walk trot a few times a week.. I don't think it would HURT her since she doesn't leave the house or anything, but she doesn't want to push it.
