I bought a place about a year ago, and we are just now finishing cleaning it up (really bad hoarder who left everything).
Anyway, it is a rectangular and has a really pretty pipe fence on one side that was just put in by neighbor (fence is property line so he replace the falling down barbed wore fence.... the rest of my place is the falling down barbed wire and we want to replace it but I'm looking for opinions on safe horse fencing. Any help would be appreciated.

you didn't say how large your place is or how many feet you would be needing to fence - we have had everything you could imagine over the years. We do all out own work and own welder so we finally put up pipe post with top and bottom pipe rail and the no climb panels between top and bottom rail it would have been extremely expensive had we not done it ourselves.

We only have 4 acres with 2and a half up front 1 on side of house and 1/2 behind house. (Guesstimate) I'd like to separate the front into 2 lots on either side of driveway. Half acre in back is eventually going to have the barn with runs. I'd also like to section off the side acre as well. So cut acres into 3 one acre lots

My perimeter fencing is 3 strand Finish Line poly with a hot wire between top 2 strands.  Capped t-posts with H braces at corners and every 300'.  This has been very safe and sturdy as well as low maintenance. Trees can fall on it and it pops right back up.  I ended up cross fencing and making pens with step in posts and electric tape.  I have a 10 mile charger and the fence will pop the crap out of you, so this has worked fabulously. It's easy to put up and move around as needed.

That's interesting, and movable is nice. Does the electric fence run up your electric bill?

Our pens are continuous pipe mounted on hedge posts. FIL has most of his front pasture fenced the same, there's one section at the back thats still woven wire, I imagine when it wears out he'll try to finish the continuous. We have a guy who builds the panels for us so we can get whatever length and configuration we need. Really like the look of it, preferred for sure.

If we had to do horse fences and couldn't do continuous pipe id probably choose hedge posts with woven no climb and a string of electric at the top, basically what our cattle pastures are only with electric instead of barb.

Hedge is our post of choice for durability and longevity. Saw a horse early on in my career come down on a metal t post. Freak deal I know, but I've not liked t posts around horses ever since.

Fifteen years ago we removed the last of the barbed wire on our place. The front of our place -- around the house and barn -- is four-rail vinyl fence, but all of our pastures are Electro-braid with solar chargers. Due to size and arrangement of pastures we have three solar chargers. We had to replace one and, of course, had to replace a batter or two during the years. We love the Electro-braid. Easy to set up and move around -- no issues with wind. We used the white with a little black to it. Easy to see. The solar charges have been terrific.

No, it's solar powered. I tested it myself last week, works awesome. LOL

Yea in the early 90s my mom had an easy jet gelding she sold that shish kabob ed himself on one....... and the fact that we have barbed wire and t- posts around the rest of the place is why there are no horses here

I have the wide flat electical tape. 2" or 1 1/2" wide. I put in T posts everywhere but corners. And covered the Tpost with white PVC pipe cut to what ever height I want and put the pvc caps on . Then screwed the insulators the PVC. Works great. is easy to fix if someone does get in it and I have had them get pretty tangled up in it when playing and not paying attention and never found more then a little hair missing. They can pull down a strand and usually I just have to put it back up. even if 100 foot of it is pulled across the pen. I highly recommend it for smaller pastures as that is when they tend to be near your fencing. Super safe. Easy to put up and not super expensive. I have been using it for more then 20 years. The tape will wear out and be more break able due to the sun but you just pull it out and replace easy peasy.  and I am talking maybe every 10 years or so.

We did the same...PVC covered T-post but used the Dare brand rope that can be made hot. It looks nice and clean and can easily be moved or taken down.

Our fence is treated 4x4 wood posts set deep in quickcrete with 3 rails made from landscape timbers notched to fit with the posts and held by big lag bolts. We did it ourselves and still have one section to go. With the auger on the tractor its not too bad a job. It looks really nice and it's safe for the horses. Wouldn't keep goats in...but we don't have those or anything small like foals etc. Easy to make a repair if ever needed. (We had a pine tree fall on a place and knock a rail down. Easy to fix)

One nice aspect for us is the deer and young fawns come and go with no drama. No climb is a problem for them as mama can jump but the babies can't. We live surrounded by national forest so it's something we enjoy to have the deer around.

With the exception of the back fenceline that is some jank looking woven wire way back in the woods, my place is fenced with Electrobraid and an A/C charger that will curl your hair. I was spraying some way overdue weed killer on the fence line the other day, reached down to pull a big weed and got zapped hard enough to make my arm feel weird, through the weed, through my gloves, while wearing rubber shoes. That oughta keep those a-hole geldings off of it. I clapped my hands the other day and they all jumped because it sounded like the fence popping.

Love the Electrobraid. I've had trees fall on the fenceline multiple times (including one big dead pine tree that keeps dropping limbs on it) and it just pops back up into place every time. I didn't have much luck with solar chargers so mine is on A/C. It seemed like I had to replace the solars a lot and luckily I had power close to the fence so I didn't have to run wire.
