| So we have been having the feed talk lately, mainly pertaining to my gelding. He is my only poopy looking one. He has been on FORCO about a week now, still 4oz/day. I noticed a little over a week ago his demeanor changed like my mares does when she is having an ulcer flare up. I started him on omep paste yesterday and will do a small round of it to try to help him out and see if that is part of my problem, though I still think digestion is #1 why he looks poopy because he has looked poopy much longer than he has acted fractious and easily upset like he is at the moment.
Question/discussion: he is not on the pattern, he is 6 but we are still working on getting him good and fancy broke. Has not even seen a can. My concern is that I'm already having ulcer-suspicious problems. What the heck will I be dealing with once I am hauling him and what can I do to prevent it? I give my barrel mare omep when we haul (works wonders) and I have no prob doing the same for him and he is going with us right now but standing tied to the trailer with a hay bag the whole time....
The mare is on SmartGut Ultra (smart paks ulcer sup) and she does amazing on it. I thought about putting both horses on both sups. The SmartGut doesn't really aid in "digestion" like the FORCO and I don't believe the FORCO addresses gastric ulcer-y issues.
As for lifestyle and diets, both are turned out 24/7, have free choice grass hay (nice quality round bale), alfalfa morning and night and eat BlueBonnet Intensify. | |
