Looking for a new saddle pad and the options are overwhelming. I had an impact gel and it made my horse sore. I have looked at Classic Equine pads, 5 star, And Best Ever Pads. I am lost at this point of what would be the best pad to get. My horse is wide with"normal" withers. Saddle fits her fine. There are so many options though with pads of thickness and what this one and that one will help with. Any suggestions?

My thought is that if the saddle fits the horse well, it doesn't need much in between it. I got a 1/2" 5 star for my new, great (right now, lol) fitting saddle. Love the combo. :)

5 star. I've used Tod Slone, Bayou West and Classic Equine pads and the 5 Star is far superior.

For a well fitting saddle I too like a 1/2" 5 star

How did the impact gel make her sore?

Was the pad too thick?

To me I have never seen a pad alone cause pain, generally it is a combination of a poor fitting saddle and a poor quality pad.

You say the saddle fits her fine, how do you know, have you had her fitted, any signs of atrophy, have you felt for any pressure points under the saddle?

I was an impact gel user...well still am but I bought a 3/4 best ever kush and love it. They are so much lighter and softer. I know everyone says 5 stars are the best but for the price I am very happy with my best ever. I want to buy another.
