| I hope it doesn't become more of a trend. I have nothing against anyone who chooses to use them for any reason, but it just scares me to death to think of the wrecks that can happen while using them and I know the more people that use them, the more likely those wrecks are to happen. | |

I hope not... For me personally I don't want to be strapped onto something with a mind of it's own! If I need to ditch my ride, I want to be able too!
You can definitely "ditch your ride" any time you want to with a magic seat. I can see the people responding on this thread haven't used one. I use one because I'm old and not as strong as I used to be, and it just gives you a little "stick" and a moment to regain your seat if your horse stumbles or something. It definitely will not hold you on. Here is a video where one of my horses fell with me. As you can see, I come off IMMEDIATELY. The things I throw up from behind the barrels are the straps that were on my legs. I often forget to undo them and dismount with them on. I use them because it's more of a confidence thing with me now, and I can ride more aggressively using it, and I'm too old for all the naysayers to bother me. lol But until you've used one, I'm not sure I would pass judgement on them. BTW, I also had my 5 yr old daughter use them and they were a great help with her learning to balance on top of her pony and she, too, came loose when the pony stumbled and fell (I had her using the youth version). After she got stronger and learned to balance, we discontinued use of it. It's only velcro, people. It only sticks....it doesn't support much weight, and I figure those kids that are falling off at the pay window really don't care what people on BHW say about them. lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjPNWKZeg-I

i'm not attacking anyone that uses one and your right I've never used one but I wouldn't feel comfortable in one and I don't feel comfortable putting my kids in one either. I guess I shouldn't of said, "I hope not" because it doesn't really matter if it's a trend or not to me. I should of said I won't be using one even if it does... If you can win in one go for it, but i'll just be an outcast if it ever does become a trend!

Location: North Dakota | I don't feel the use of a magic seat is any more of an advantage than rubber bands. To each their own. If a rider feels more secure when using a magic seat than more power to them! Nothing is stopping me from going out and using one as well. I use rubber bands on one mare because she nearly lost me at a barrel when I lost a stirrup once. That has never happened to me before but now I make sure it will never happen again. I pay good money in entry fees, fuel, feed, etc to win and I am not about to let something stupid like a lost stirrup keep me from the pay window again. People could say that "Well if you had a better seat or were using your legs properly you wouldn't lose a stirrup." When going 9-0 and making quick, snappy turns anything can happen and why take the chance of something so stupid keeping you from $$$ when a simple little rubberband can help your confidence which can be the key to winning? If the kid is really small and strapped onto a horse that is obviously too powerful for the kid to safely handle then I personally find a problem with that but if the rider can handle their horse no problem but use it to help with confidence when making a run for big $$$ then so be it!

Location: Texas | Running in them is one thing, but daily riding should be without them so you can learn your seat. I have ridden in them once before because I thought it would be fun and I could ride around without stirrups and it was honestly the most annoying feeling ever. They don't "hold you in" at all, they just kind of hold your legs in place, but they are actually so thin in velcro that you can come up out of your seat very easily. For me it just took that freedom feeling away and didn't feel as fun as riding without them is.
Personally I don't think it will ever be anymore of a trend than it already is..

| I agree with Dianne, they do serve a purpose for some ppl, they help you feel alittle more secure, and if you crash, they will release. If you dont like them, then don't use them :) | |

Location: Oklahoma | I half use one lol I found the only saddle that fits my horse but the saddle is fully tooled and slick! The only thing I can come up with without messing saddle up and paying an arm and leg to change out the saddle seat and jockey part I use the magic seat without the straps. It has helped tremendously!

Im a believer in learning the correct way to ride and gaining strength and balance from no aids but I can defenitely see the MS being used for therapeutic riders. I guess to take a few tenths off the MS has helped these people win. They scare me but that's just me. This post is not intended to start WW3.
They are an aid. I recommend trying one before condeming those that use them. Itty bitty kids well that is a judgement call and can be fixed by trimming down the amount of velcro stick there is. It is that simply velcro, it comes undone
