Slip at barrel race and cut tongue questions..

I had my horse slip after the run while slowing down. She fell completely down on her side.. her body doesn't seem sore, although she will get cold hosed and sore no more anyways and time off. But her tongue has a deep gash in it. THankfully my vet was there and looked at her right away and said no bit for quite awhile and then be very picky with it.. I have ran her in a hack before and probably will finish the year in one to be safe, but could I use the same bit next year, or should I stick to a hack? Here's the bit I was running in.

.. She's eating fine and looks fine, but it's never fun to know she's hurt, so any prayers would be appreciated also! Also how long before you guys would run one? I plan on riding her maybe Sunday just to see if she's hurting, not actually working her, probable just a walk out in the fields and go from there.

I would wait and see how the horse runs in the hack this year. Tongues take a while to heal and are painful! Make sure the horse isn't in any pain to give her a fair shot at running well with the hack. Good luck

I would check with the vet.

I agree: Check with your vet.
Also agree with giving her a fair shot in the hack before trying anything different. Tongues take forever to heal.
