Location: Stephenville, TX | I'm currently using Advantix II on the fur child, but not loving the grease spots it leaves for a few days. Also might be getting a cat(s) and I know Advantix is toxic to them. So I'm interested in the switching to a pill instead. Has to control both fleas AND ticks.
Feedback on the pills you use is greatly appreciated. It's my understanding that all of them are prescription only. Somewhere I heard at least one of them requires a heartworm test, but I'm unsure if the one requiring the test also works as a heartworm preventative or if the fur child needs to be put on one of those also. |

Location: Lone Star State | Bravecto or Nexguard protects against both fleas and ticks and both do an excellent job on dogs. Bravecto is one pill that lasts for 3 months so it is more of an expense up front. Nexgard lasts for one month. Can be purchased at a vet but no heartworm test required.
If you wanted one to cover heartworms and therefore requires heartworm test, trifexis or sentinel would be your options. Keep in mind these two cover heartworms, intestinal worms, and fleas...not ticks. There is no magic pill that does all of these together.
Edited to say, I keep my dog on Bravecto in summer along with a separate heartworm pill (Iverhart) year around and no worries.

Location: Central Okla. | We've been using Comfortis for years. It's not labeled ticks, but, more than one vet has told us that it does in fact work on them, just for about 3 weeks instead of the 4 weeks as it does for fleas. We are pleased with it. |

I like Nexgard as well. We had always given Frontline but ended up with a flea infestation from the one dog because it turns out the Frontline was not working on her. Since we have switched to Nexgard we have not had any issues. |

Location: Southern Oregon | I couldn't find one that worked well for our older GRT and our JRT. Either they had a skin reaction or upset stomachs from the pill. We tried out the Seresto collar and it is amazing! We love it |

Location: Florida.. | I wouldnt use Triflexis on the cat.. it made my moms cat really sick.
I use it on my rottie though and requires a HW test first. There are some bad stories about it so monitor your dog after ..Mine has never had a reaction so I continue to use it. |
