Scooters Savior Location: "Si Fi" Ville	I bought a horse back that I owned a few years ago. He had more talent than any horse I have ever known had he not been a ducker. I never could fix him, vetted him more times than I can count with more vets than I can count. After I sold him, I saw a thread regarding horses with flapper type issues. It was like a Eureka moment, I knew then he had some type of problem with the airway. I thought back and realized sometimes it seemed he held his breath when he ran sometimes. Also, I can remember some times when he was excited coming down the alley and he would drop his head down and I could hear some noise that I cant describe. I bought him back because he was going from owner to owner to owner and just felt awful for him. He has a super handle and is nice to ride therefore I figured he could be my pony horse for my colts. He doesn't have any noticeable signs when he is relaxed and working. I noticed today, when he dropped his head to eat grass that he sounded as if he was breathing thru a wet paper sack. I am hoping some of you that have had similar instances with a horse will give me some ideas as to what this may be and vets that are very familiar with this type of problem.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1092 Location: OK	I don't know where you live, but I've learned that sometimes, you have them scoped and everything looks great when they're standing still. There IS a scope that attaches to the bridle with a remote imaging doodad so they can see the airway WHILE you are loping/running the horse. That is what I would do if I really wanted to know. I saw a video of some vets working horses with it and that was a Eureka moment for me because my scope was normal standing still in the vet's office, and the horse went great until we were really running hard, then she went ape-s&*#. So looking back, I'm sure that once the air was moving through the airway that hard, the flapper would flutter and intermittently shut her air off and make her panic.

Expert Posts: 4766 Location: Bandera, TX	I don't know where your from but we have an excellent surgeon that cuts the muscle and these horses come storming back into competition. Not a tie forward or a tie back surgery but an actual complete section of the muscle. Just a little time off then back to full exercise. Once they realize their fit and not suffocating head back to the winners circle. The surgery is best done lying down that's the only draw back but he says he will do it standing just perfers the horse down and hyperextension of the neck/head.

Perky Gal Location: On a paint horse...	You are describing a horse I know to a tee! Is there a name for the scoping when they are being worked so I can try to find someone that does it in my area?
