| I am just starting to really push my mare. Any ideas on getting more push or hustle between barrels? Whip? Drills? Exercises? She is push style, so I may just need to be building a bigger fire in her. Any ideas? Thanks! |

| agree with the breezing. sometimes waking them up on the pattern via whipping or whatever can kind of make your pattern fall apart if they get too free that way....but breezing usually directly translates over to the pattern and you dont risk your horse losing rate at the barrels as easily |

| That's what I figured the answer would be! Unfortunately, I don't have great ground at home, at least not for breezing her through. Which is a bummer. That's normally what I use an exhibition run for. |

cotton fields or any farmers field could work too if you stay on the edges and make sure the farmer "okays" it. I use a cotton field and I have friends that use old crop circles too. Can just drive out there and unload on the side of the road, breeze, and go home :) |

| Get her in really good shape, I also have a lazy push style and I'd recommend getting a little quirt whip, and a quick smack after finishing each barrel does wonders for him! |

NUTRITION. Along with the breezing.
I increased my horse's grain (was literally only getting 1/2 pound a day) and that seemed to light a little fire under his butt!
What are you currently feeding? |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | I have the same problem. I bought on in July that had been turned out for 5yrs. 3 due to injury and 2 more due to owner not riding anymore. Before he was turned out he was winning rodeos and barrel races so I know it's there but just have to find it. But he's not quite ready yet. Everyone told me to breeze him but I don't have a safe place to breeze. We used to use a dirt road close to my house but now they've lime rocked it so can't use it anymore. I have breezed him down the side of the arena but that's not much. Anyone have any other suggestions. |

| Platinum Performance will put some gas in their tank. Getting them in shape so that they actually feel like running. Do you feel like going out and running half a mile right now? |

| I feed Buckeye. I've even talked to the nutritionist for them and she's on track. She's in good shape and conditioned. I am not trying to toot my own horn, but I grew up fitting and showing halter horses, getting one fit and fed right has never been a problem. It's usually the opposite. LOL! I have actually looked into Platinum...what supplement do you use? |

Can you define "breeze" as:
A: a sort of fast trip on the pattern
B: running with some speed on a straight away or like a race track.
Thank you!! |

How old is your horse? I would make sure that she is quiet and comfortable on the barrels. You have to remember that smooth is always faster. You can try little things to help speed her up, just be sure that you don't sacrifice smoothness.

| She is 9. She is very quiet and sane on the barrels. Barely gets on the muscle at the gate and walks out flat footed. If she gets worked up, it's normally my fault. LOL. She's a very willing and forgiving partner.
I have also been feeding Purina SuperSport and Cetyl M. I've been thru two 25# bags of the SuperSport and I can't tell a difference in her. I talked to someone at Platinum Performance yesterday on your recommendations and it sounds like the PP CJ will fit the bill for her and it eliminates 2 supplements for 1. I appreciate the feedback!

BreeZe her once or twice a week until she starts moving on her own, then cut back maybe once every 2-3 weeks. It's good for their lungs as well.
Best advice is to sit up and ride in between barrels |
