Any recommendations?

My five year old has bucked me off twice in the last week, hard. Last night I was very glad I am a helemt wearer for it.

The more we find about his history he's a known bucker. He is sweet to handle, easy to ride, but after a point when he's done the eject button kicks in and when you ask him for something he doesn't feel like giving, you gone.

I would really like to send him to someone who will ride him daily, hard. Use him, ranch on him, get a work ethic on him. Any recommendations?

yeah I had one that wasn't started that great as far as confindence building, he rode fine and just had 30 days on him. I got hurt on another horse so he sat and got fat. So I sent him off and he was cowboyed and ruined in about 5 days time. Now I have a really talented, sweet, useless 4yr old. I would send him to someone that would use him, but watch out for the "cowboy" type. There are plenty of ranchers/horsemen around that are gentle and put a good handle on one, but they also have jobs to do and if the horse keeps them from doing a job they are paid to do, they won't take them on. Just really ask around and even then you can get a bad one. I sure did my homework and he didn't have a clue, wish I knew that before I sent him the horse.

Kind of a random thought, but have you checked your saddle fit? I used to have a gelding that sounds like yours. He would ride great for awhile, then he'd blow. He once bucked my husband's saddle off over the front end, back cinch, breast collar and all. I found an extra wide tree and never had another problem. My husband also put a wider saddle on him. I honestly think he would tolerate the pinching of the saddle for awhile, but then it became too much and he'd throw a fit.

I do agree though that you really need to do your research before sending your horse off to be ranched on. We are surrounded by feed yards, and there are plenty of guys that claim to do a great job, but there are really only a couple that we trust with our horses.

My gelding was sent to a feedlot....he came back crazy from being beaten on. It's taken me SEVERAL months to get him to where he is now, and has done a complete 180 attitude wise in my care.

I agree with chosing wisely when it comes to sending him off.

I have a "secret weapon" trainer who can literally fix any horse. Sounds crazy but it's true. PM me if you are interested, he's in WI and I rarely tell people about my go-to guy ;)

Have you thought about Ellsworth Equestrian Center in Iowa Falls, Iowa. I have my 3 year old their now. They have done a beautiful job with the horses that I have sent there. Their next semester starts sometime after Oct 16th. I can give you DeAnna's phone number if you want. They have a facility on the south side of town and take in about 60 head from  weanlings to older riding horses.
