My horse was diagnosed with squamous cell cancer in stomach. He was given no hope, brought home to manage pain and pamper before being put to sleep. He is an awesome, beautiful horse. Anybody have any experience with holistic treatments?

I lost my once in a lifetime horse to squamous cell carcinoma that started in his nose.  We tried lots of different things, but nothing stopped it. He lived about 15 months after diagnosis before the tumor got into a major blood vessel, he hemorrhaged, and I put him down before he bled to death.

I'm so sorry for what you will be going through. It doesn't hurt to try things, maybe something will help your horse, if not cure him, at least let him be comfortable longer.

I don't want to be debbie downer, but I don't have much faith at all in holistic treatments for cancer.

What type of clinic was the diagnosis made in? If you haven't gone to a University, I would suggest that. If you have, I am afraid there's not too much to do.

I don't know about holistic treatment, but I believe in prayer. And I'll add your boy to my list.

3forluck---so sorry to hear this, I'm sure it was heartbreaking.

I have a big blue eyed paint with it in his nose. Had it removed 3 years ago from both nostrils, and it came back in the right. As soon as it cools off, I'm having it removed again. He's a big ole loving goof, so I hope we get a handle on it.

I am so sorry to hear that...the picture for my profile is mine that had squamous cell carcinoma.   By the time we figured out what it was (University confirmed), he was going down hill fast.  I looked for anything and everything that could save him.  Nothing helped.  I wish I had some good advice for you.  He was my best friend and had to be put down just shy of turning 12.   He had it in his mouth.  And ironically he was a plain sorrel QH with absolutely no white markings.  So it doesn't just hit the ones with lots of white either.  He was one in a million and to this day I can barely talk about him without tearing up.
Prayers to you

i would go to SecondVet.com and post on the forum.  Dr Schellis great and quick to answer questions.  He had cancer himself and that is how his products developed.  Dont know if  they would help but it is worth a try.

Mine that had it was a sorrel as well.

I do know we do some chemo at TAMU with 5-FU and Cisplatin, but I don't know the success rates with SCC.

If its ocular, we implant Strontium-90 radiation into them. OP- you may see if its possible for them to do a GI scope and implant the SR-90 into it there. Worth a shot at asking.
