| If the barrel race was truly a 4D I would go. If you win you do well. From second place on down not so good. Solid color horse run in a separate race and as usual they are the step children Justt a warning, those Texaa girls come out of the woodwork and they are tough. I run against them all the time, Mary Burger showed up last year and won the Aged barrel race by well over a second. In the PBRIP barrel race she was second. Be sure that you get equipment approved so you don't have surprises at the gate, wrap your spurs because they check for spur marks, no rubber band. This is a breed show and they can do what they want. Just to let you know. Read your rules. |

Thank you for the heads up! I've been once before, I'm looking forward to it whether I win or not. Do you mean no bands on your feet? |

Yes, no rubber bands on your feet. I have a friend who rides with a piece of inner tube on her butt. She rides huge powerful horses. They would not let her ride with that and she fell off in the PBRIP. She won the aged barrel race by about .8 seconds without her inner tube.

| There have been rule changes....rubber bands are approved in PBRIP. There have also been more leniency in the bits. (Rubber bands on your feet, not your butt).
The sweepstakes is a 4d and the futurity is a 2d full second split.
The solid paints get to run for the same amount of added money as the colored ones - yes there are fewer solids entered but It does give you better odds of placing......
if you are interested in going just educate yourself with the rules and go! It's a fun race and lots of things to see and do!
You will get positive and negative comments on this topic so reading the rules and talking to people who have been is your best bet as they can give you their experiences.
Also....Mary Burger won the futurity....she didn't have the fastest time in the seniors because she didn't run that day. The fastest overall of both days was the junior horse and he got a barrel in the futurity....and won the 4d due to carrying over to sweepstakes- with a +5.....keep riding because your +5 isn't a 'no time' at a show!!!

Location: Aubrey, Texas | I'd like to add that the APHA is interested in expanding opportunities and incentives for barrel racing Paints (solid or colored) so if you have any constructive advice, please share it with them!
