Location: Southwest Louisiana | I've had an ultrasound and they found ovarian cysts. They come monthly and are pretty darn painful. I have two kids and my husband has been "gelded" so we aren't worried about having kids. Buy my doctor put me on birth control because she said that's how they prevent them from forming. Well, I HATE birth control with a passion. Hated it before kids and was so happy to not be on it anymore for several years. I've tried several different brands, she's got me on the lowest amount of hormones with the lowest amount of side effects, and it's still making me insane.
Is there a more natural way to prevent these cysts from forming? I really want to stop this birth control but the cysts are very painful when they occur.
Thanks |

Location: Oklahoma | I have them almost Bi-monthly and yes they are very painful. Extreme when threy burst which mine do. And the only way I've found is birth control. And I hate taking it too! The dr said the only way to help is to stop ovulation. Sorry to hear you are going thru this! |

Location: Red Raiderland | Find a gynocologist that specializes in bio-identical hormones. Stay away from the synthetic hormones. Try as hard as you can NOT to have both ovaries removed. You have to really educate yourself on this subject. |

| Do you have PCOS?
A lady I worked with had PCOS, and the doctor perscribed her metformin and it worked, no more ovarian cysts |

Location: Southwest Louisiana | No PCOS, just a "regular" cycst or two every month. I really don't want to get anything removed just yet, as I know that means hormone therapy, which I've hears is worse than dealing with birth control. This issue affects so many people, I wonder why there isn't a better way to handle it yet. |

Location: Red Raiderland | Whether they determine if you need a total hysterectomy or not have someone look very closely at your hormone levels now. Make your gyn do a good blood test that shows what your hormone levels currently look like. I had a total hysterectomy in June and I found an awesome gyn that specializes in bio-identical hormones and she is majorly strict about breaking down the bloodwork not only for hormones but for overall health. It was a wake up call for me for sure! I would encourage all women to really push their gyns to run a blood panel on your hormones and find out where you are. Bio-Identical hormones are not a bad thing. I am starting to feel pretty good these days but I wish someone would have told me about a hormone specialty doctor about 10-15 years ago. BTW, I have fired my current OB/Gyn because she just didn't give a crap about whether my hormones were balanced or not. It's scary how they brush women aside once we hit perimenopause or menopause. |

| I think you're options are very limited. It's one of those "lady" things we just have to endure, I guess, or take meds that we don't want to take. I suffered for many years with monthly cysts after coming off the pill when I had a tubal after my second child was born....oh my goodness, such pain, but thankfully, the worst pain only lasted a day or less....extreme pain but short lived. I actually hit the floor a time or two like someone had shot me, like one must of burst or something. So, when I say, "I feel your pain", I do. I hope you find a solution you're happy with.

Interesting. https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001504.htm

Location: Texas | I had never had an ovarian cyst until I got on the Nexplanon birth control. The doctor told me that my options depended on what the cysts did. Mine have gone away on their own but have always been very painful. I had even gotten to the point that I was asking about getting my ovaries removed and my doctor strongly advised against it as it puts females at a much higher risk for osteoporosis as the ovaries produce hormones that are essential for fighting it. He also said having your ovaries removed puts you at a higher risk to develop cervical cancer. |
