 A Gopher's Worst Nightmare

Location: Southern Oregon | I love the stuff. I have been using it off and on for years. I used it mainly on my BIG HS rodeo mare forever ago. She always seemed blah , red cell boosted her up to a whole new level. I did find it can make some horses hot, but I think it is just because they are feeling so much better. Like when we are taking proper vitamins and minerals. Feed it per directions.

| Is this something that is fed daily or a few days before an event? |

Red cell is an iron supplement so you have to be careful with it. It's probably not something I would feed on a regular basis, primarily because iron is a mineral that our body stores. In high concentrations it can be harmful.
I would get a blood panel done $85.00 +/- to see if everything looks good. If it does, I probably wouldn't feed a vit/min supplement. It would be a waste of money. Instead you could try some B12 for a little extra kick... Or maybe just some extra exercise or some swimming to get her feeling good and having a bit more energy.
Good luck!

| I give it to my senior guy off and on with his appetite. Have not needed to lately as he seems to like the mix that I have him on presently. |

What is B12? I looked it up and see it mostly as an injection except for this.. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=24677 |

You can inject it IM... Not sure how well it is absorbed in a feed through. Maybe do a little research on the feed through if you don't like doing injections.
Just read some reviews and people say the feed supplement is working for them... I'd try that first.

| Red Cell turned my laid back barrel mare into an idiot who set back at the trailer, breaking the tie when her buddy left-something she'd never done. At the same show she started bucking during a barrel run-also something she'd never done. This was after two weeks of red cell. I cut her dose to half of the recommended dose-two weeks after that she made big circles around all three barrels. I gave the rest of the red cell away. |

First of all I am OLD. I used to feed Red Cell about 35 years ago and it made my horses idiots too. I went to a barrel race and they had raffle prizes and one prizze was Red Cell. When they called your name you got to pick your prize. I was discussing what to pick with an OLD friend and she said she would NEVER pick the Red Cell and I told her I thought it might be a good choice for US NOT THE HORSES. |

^ This. I have had good and bad experiences with Red Cell. Some horses go CRAZY some it gives the extra pep to their step. I would get blood work done and then feed accordingly. In my opinion you should have blood work any ways so that your horse can get what they are missing |

Yep, I think a lot of us "oldies" used to feed Red Cell. I'd be tempted to take it myself but don't have a horse I'd want to give it to, lol! |

As per my vet, Lixotonic contains only the water soluble vitamins while Red Cell has fat soluble also. You could reach toxic levels with Red Cell if too much was given or not needed. Edit to add: If you can get past the taste of the lixotonic, it will put some pep in YOUR step.

Location: Piedmont, OK | it can be toxic if given too much but is good for an anemic horse. You could look into injectable B vitamins. For extra pick up I give Animal Element Product X it is safe and not toxic in any way. I take the product X myself when I am low on energy and it works great on me! |
