Since my last one got pulled let me try an actual horse related post. My daughter's pole horse passed away last week and we are on the look out for another one. There have several (ok, many) post on here about sale ads and sellers/buyers, and it seems that most ads/sellers are misleading. So how are you supposed to buy a horse and know what you are getting up front unless you buy a horse you already know from someone you know?

Google the registered name and see what the horse has won.

Recent consistent results.

If you cannot find results that match BOTH of those criteria, it's a red flag.

Contact Ross Carnahan. If he doesn't have one he will know where one is.

Like other posters said research results. Use all different search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing) because they often pull up different information so cover all your bases. If the owner is selling because they don't "click" find out what the previous owners name was and search their results.

If the horse is registered pull up their past owner history online and search those names.

If a horse is being campaigned you should be able to pull up results somewhere. If you can't find results take that as a warning.

You need to dedicate a couple of nights to researching. I've bought several horses sight unseen with good luck but I asked a ton of questions, watched the videos VERY closely, and pulled up results that were inline with what I'm buying.

Also if you get some results that are unfavorable don't dismiss the horse just on those results ask about them. The person may have ran at 20 events, and 10 of which posted results. Of those 10 events three may have been on poor footing or during the rain where an owner rode cautiously so ask questions when you find results :)

Best of luck

is your daughter doing jr or high school rodeos? as in, how many years of poles does she need to get out of the horse? What type of times are competitive in your association? I know of an older 20-21 second pole horse.. as in a 9 year old girl that didnt do much rating for end poles etc ran 21s on it. I sold him to them but he is older now. I ran low 20's on him
