Intersting post on Second Vet on EPM regarding Marquis and other former treatments.  I've never had EPM, but know several on here have dealt with it and getting it under control, so thought i'd share.

Herbie, thank you for posting! I treated a mare a few years ago and wondered about boosting the immune system- thank goodness I did! I have never used Marquis but I have used Diclazuril (on a different horse) and I am glad to see that my vet isn't the only one who has used it! (its not the most popular treatment where I live)

I've been reading up, and it seems like supplementing the immune system is almost as important as the treatment. The Orogin treatment includes Levamisole, which boosts the immune system, and it seems most vets now recommend high dose vitamin e as a complement to treatment to boost the immune system.

I have tried a treatment that had levamisole as a component, however I gave other immune boosters I liked better. Every horse is different. When I brought that mare back and started riding I religiously gave immune boosting suppliments/ injectables. It really worked, she went from falling down in the hind end to clocking in the 2D in texas :) I have heard people also give vit e and selenium... I injected vit e a couple times instead of giving orally. Really liked the AE detox

I am very pro active in my prevention of ailments ie DIET, PROPER NUTRITION and exercise programs not just for my horse but I do this for myself. I'm not surprised by the increase in dosing schedule and some of that may be due to resistance to the drugs caused by poor prescribing practices. Pharmaceutical companies can't make a profit if we aren't sick.
