trying to find the info but having a hard time....

one of my goals is the qualify and compete at AQHA World Show in OK, I have never done this.....

so what does it take to get there, as in how many points?

how are the points awarded?

I have found Amateur Barrels Level 2 - 2.5, and Amateur Barrels Level 3 - 5.0

is there and amateur novice class? or a level 1? or as in Kung Fu Panda "there is now a level zero" bahahahahahhaah, just joking....

I live an hour from Houston, so I know that's one show I can attend....

thanks yall

The number of points that you need to qualify varies from year to year. For instance there are 43 horses that have earned points in barrels one year, they may lower the number of points needed to qualify to say 5 points so that they insure there are plenty of entries that year. One year there are 300 horses that have points in barrel Racing so AQHA may increase the number of points so that only 100 horses qualify with enough points. Let's use pleasure driving as an example. It is very hard to get points in pleasure driving because no one enters so you may only need to have three points to qualify. It may take you 10 shows to get enough points to qualify.

The number of points awarded in a class goes by number of entries in the class. AQHA has a chart to calculate points in their handbook. Get a handbook and memorize their rules. The first thing is that you must be an AQNA member and that is a good place to start. Get a handbook!!!

Better add....breed shows cater to the JUDGED events. Timed events are very low priority. They are lucky to even get a pattern set up. I went to an APHA show and they timed with an IPhone. I have not ridden at a barrel race since the 1970's that did not have a timer. Amazing

I know we used to try to run the solid paint in my profile pic at APHA shows to get points, but Solids can't show in anything other than solid designated classes - even in the speed events. They can't even show in the open classes. It was the biggest bull crap ever, so you won't catch us doing breed events anymore.

Level 1 is what used to be the novice division.  They used to have 2 shows, East and West that were held in October. For 2016 there will be 3 shows, East, West and midwest held in April and May. In 2016 no points are needed to qualify and enter

For levels 2 & 3 you are required to meet the qualifying points for the division you wish to enter. Read the rule book for points.
5 entries the winner gets  1  point, 2nd gets 1/2 point. 10 entries the winner gets 2 points, 2nd gets 1 point & 3rd gets /2 point, etc
Back when I was entering AQHA shows ther was no novice or level 2 divisions. It took about 18 ponts to qualify for amater and 22 -26 to qualify for open.

Things sure have changed

Good luck

In Texas you better be winning by the1d to get points or close to it.... I'm in Cali so there's not much comp in timed events but I was #2 In the nation back in the day lol.... I had a lot of fun and the show people I know are way nicer than most barrel racers.
