Hi there! I had another account on here, but it's been a while, and I don't remember my info :p anyway, I am interested in this horse for sale. She's a gorgeous filly, 2 years old coming 3... but she isn't weaned! Still in pasture with her dam, and occasionally still tries to suckle on mom, even though she's dry now. Has anybody dealt with weaning an older horse? I'm wondering if just taking her cold turkey after buying her is ok? She will be next to other horses at my farm. Any input is helpful. Thank you!

Just take her off and put her with other horses, preferably one that will kick her head in if she tries to keep nursing. She's a big girl, she'd be fine.

She'll be fine. When I had my first mare, she had a foal. The foal was weaned after six months, and when they put them back together the foal would continue to try to suckle off her mom until she was 2 years old or so. I think some horses just don't forget, LOL. I think she did it even after she came back from the colt starter. But when I sold the mare, the filly was fine, other than missing her pasture mate.
